That's great news for sure :)

Some of Futures mags are quite good for sure, but where RG has the edge (scuse the pun) is the depth put into its features and articles. It was certainly a worry they would either stop the mag completely- or worse IMO- alter it to more of a 'Retro Gamer Light' version, with pretty pics and less emphasis on the longer features and interviews. Very pleasing it will be business as usual! :D

I filled in the questionnaire.

Glad to hear it's quite innocuous. As much as I love the magazine, it's more the employment dependant on the magazine that would be my concern. Fingers crossed it goes from strength to strength! Might get a few subscriptions as gifts for people's birthday etc!

Future Publishing started publishing with Amstrad Action.
This is like Amstrads takeover of Sinclair all over again.

Odd that it suggests GamesTM competes directly with Edge.

It's clearly a slow news day at Eurogamer.

Well, they do in the sense that they're both multi-format games magazines towards the serious end of the spectrum. It's easy to focus on their differences, but from a dispassionate perspective they mostly write about the same games and tend to have similar things to say about them too.

It's nice that we've had both for a while, but let's face it; the circulations for printed mags aren't huge these days and tend to be trending downwards, so they may well get merged at some point now that they're under the same publisher. It's not what I'd want to happen, I'm just trying to be realistic about it.

I wonder if it'll all go like comics did back when I was a kid. That dreaded "Next issue: EXCITING NEWS!" announcement, followed by your favourite weekly read's least favourite strips being merged into another comic and then disappearing altogether.

Will we see "EDGE with Games TM (Incorporating Retro Gamer)" on the shelves at some point?
If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

I heard that EDGE will be merged with the Official Playstation Mag. It'll be called PLEDGE and will offer a clean look with a lemon scent.

Well, it does.

Both multi format. Both get on high horse about review scores, where they feel they need to explain what a 10 is every issue. Both go down the interview with a developer / preview a game each month way of setting their content out. Both don't name reviewers... the list goes on...

One of them will have to make way if it does go through...

...and both are boring as hell! I've tried multiple times with both mags and there's simply too much 'industry' talk and massive articles that try and make the whole hobby too 'serious'.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Didn't know this purchase had happened. I hate Future as they killed PCFormat at the forum. Came to Retro Gamer as it wasn't Future.

Also HATE their renewal sub letters. They are GREATLY misleading with a bit red "You owe us money" type deal. If you didn't read it carefully you'd pay up, not realising it's just a renewal letter.

Having said that Imagine have just sent a renewal letter with "LOWEST PRICE EVER". I only save £2.50 and the "Within 14 days" it's been over 14 days and it's still available.
