Future acquire Imagine
Twitter is a-buzzing.
What does this mean for RG? If it means anything at all.

Just saw that on Eurogamer

Doesn't say anything about Retro Gamer but GamesTM looks done for.

Re: Future acquire Imagine
Hi everyone.
There are concerns on twitter, email and facebook, so I just want to clarify something.
Retro Gamer is one of Imagine's top 3 brands. It isn't going anywhere. It's a hugely profitable magazine with great circulation and a great team.

Re: Future acquire Imagine
I'm sure the mag will do just fine.
Any ideas what will happen to the website and this forum though? I'd imagine that they'll be keen to rationalize it all with Future's own web presence.

Does this mean the mag will have access to other Future mag's archives? PC Zone Retrospective!

Re: Future acquire Imagine
What would this mean exactly? I'd be extremely unhappy if Future wanted to bin this place and tell us to use social media...Matt_B wrote:I'd imagine that they'll be keen to rationalize it all with Future's own web presence.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.
Re: Future acquire Imagine
Ermm, that's a good point. SFX magazine used to have a great site and forum, then they threw it all in the bin. I think they have some facebook page that I've never looked at, and they removed some of the interaction they used to have with the readers. Their current site is on Games Radar and is rubbish. To me they have completely vanished from the internet.
I'd be very annoyed if that happened to Retro Gamer.

If....ok bigger one needed
if
the forum was to be ditched, then I promise this.......
I would build a new forum for us all to go to, it won't be fancy, but I will do it.
and you can take that to the bank

I'd get it set up now then! last time we lost the forum - it just went. Not saying it will happen but Future seem to like killing off good things.flatapex wrote:If....ok bigger one needed

Re: Future acquire Imagine
Yeah, I've been on a few forums that have died over the years and the key thing is time. If we leave it until the last second before everyone gets into the lifeboats we'd probably lose a lot of people in the process.
I suppose there's always a chance that Future will see some value in this place and keep it up and running - and I doubt it's costing the Earth to maintain or anything - but we should probably prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.
If nothing else, it'd be nice to have a forum that's free of kitchen spam and database errors.

True. I understand these things are a fact of life in business and so on, I just hope they don't decide to fart around too much with their product, either the forum or especially the mag
