My first ever type-in, was from a magazine borrowed one night from a mate at school. It was a simple lunar lander for the zx81. This was the first time I worked out how to move objects on the screen (let x = x + 1 etc). The ZX81 was also borrowed, from my cousin

.
The next best was from Your Computer, as great version of snake, which showed me how to create UDGs on a VIc, and a very good version of Frogger that had some 6502 to scroll the cars. In fact I liked the Frogger so much I typed it in one day and left the computer on all day (I had no tape recorder back then) so I could play it. Then typed it in again a few days later so I could play it again. Utter madness.
Cool! I have a very of the Nokia Snake Classic in the book too

I did a lot of type ins, but the spaceman text adventure in (I think) Oric Owner eluded me.
It was quite long, and I tried two or three times, but every time I got near the end the electricity meter would run out!
That's something kids of today don't have to put up with.

I also used to do a lot of type ins. Yes some worked some didn't but wasn't that the fun in trying to correct or make them better. I remember making my own high score entry system on the speccy that would scroll the letters up and down smoothly a pixel line at a time in basic using a joystick with fire to progress. I would also try adapting between machines.
