Harry Enfield is a great character performer, but without Paul Whitehouse contributing to the writing it just didn't work.
The very first episode of the first series is just fantastic. It has a really heart-felt 'Slobs' sketch, where Waynetta kicks Wayne out because social services say he's probably a paedophile for wanting to spend so much time with his own kids, so he leaves to date Naomi 'Nomio' Campbell. Martin Clunes plays the Terminator sent further back in time in a Merchant-Ivory period costume drama, and Ben Elton sends himself up in an overly-feminist spoof of the Benny Hill end-of-show chase sketches.

Mr Cholmondley-Warner and the 1950's public information films were always bloody hilarious. Wrong, but bloody hilarious!

To be honest I don't think German gy has aged very well. Mr C-W is still utterly hilarious though

I don't think the show has aged very well to be honest.
I still love some of the sketches and characters, but having seen it again recently it doesn't make me laugh like it did first time round.
I also think that Harry Enfield became less and less funny as time went on, whereas the supporting cast became funnier and carried the sketches.
Interestingly, a lot of Fast Show characters and sketches were ideas that Paul Whitehouse originally suggested/offered to Enfield but he turned them down as he didn't think they would work...

The Sky show was pretty poor, but I used to enjoy the Toby Carmichael character quite a lot (all that 'yah yah yaaah' stuff):

Pity he looks like one of the Old Gits now. Speaking of The Old Gits, I used to really like Paul Whitehouse's sitcom Help...but unfortunately, his co-star kind of mucked that one up with his dodgy extracurricular activities...
