used to like the bouncing balls stage on IK+
Re: Favourite Bonus Stage?
Has to be the special stage in Sonic 2. A half pipe stage that was quite something back in the days of the Mega Drive (Certainly amazed 6 year old me.
) and they even try to replicate it in other Sonic games its that good.

Mainly the quick ones between levels in arcade games
Car smash from streetfighter2 and final fight.Didnt like the barrel one in streetfighter though.
Test your might in mortal kombat.
Balloon pump in simpsons arcade.
Sewer surfing in turtles.
On consoles mario 3 and the sonic games had enjoyable bonus sections. Also the tekken ball bonus in tekken 3.

The fruit collecting mazes on Kwik Snax Dizzy. Nothing more maddening than realising you'd got your route wrong and would miss that last piece of fruit while old Diz wanders aimlessly through the void...

Aztec in Goldeneye 007 (N64). The appearance of Jaws - and one hell of a tough level to boot.

Yeah, think this was the most impressive thing about the game to me when I first played it. Quite partial to Sonic 1's spinny stages too.ALK wrote:Has to be the special stage in Sonic 2. Past that, the treasure rooms in Gauntlet were a nice change of pace.

The Shiruken stages in Shinobi.
The Graduis stages in Blades of Steel.

The bonus room from Skull Monkeys! it may not be the most remarkable thing gameplay wise but that music!

I always hated the Sonic 2 special stages, could never get all the emeralds in that game.ALK wrote:Has to be the special stage in Sonic 2. But I DID enjoy the Sonic 3/Knuckles stages, they were great fun.

Yeah they were great bonus stages back in the day but the ones on Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn were even better as they featured tunnels, jumps, different inclines & declines and better graphics of course.ALK wrote:Has to be the special stage in Sonic 2. Super Monkey Ball had some cool bonus stages as did Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I also like Ristars bonus stages. Probably a few others i'm forgetting.
The square is a great shape, and one that is criminally underused in modern game design. In the push to ever more granular, chaotic environments, games have lost sight of the simple pleasures of right angles and straight lines.

I love flying along the hypnotic streaky bacon in Tempest 2000.
Scott me up beamie!

The Galaga challenger stages, love them. Also Shinobi, the star-throwing bit is just tons of fun, bit hard but the best part of the game in my opinion!
