Got a 2 pint take out from work again. Tonight I have the excellent Downton Brewery 'Chimera IPA' 6.8% - this has sold like hotcakes!!! Amazing beer :D

Just had my second Brewery Gate crate delivered....anyone else signed-up to anything like this?

A crate of 16 bottled beers from all over the world delivered every two months for 45 squids - lots of stuff from small local breweries that I wouldn't normally get to try, I'm impressed so far.

Yeah! Just bought this from a pub in town, and sank a smaller bottle whilst there. Favourite beer. Delicious. A feast in liquid form. Plenty to chew on after every swallow. Niiiiice! :D Will be laying this down for a while for extra maturity.

And now just got my hands on these. Chimay I've mentioned before (no! never!), but the Trappistes Rochefort 10 is one I'd been looking for for some time. Looking forward to drinking this, and not only because it is 11.3%! I'll do my best to tell you all as and when what it is like.

I do so much driving I very rarely drink. Did pick up from Aldi a couple of bottles of Batemans combined harvest.

Probably partly down to the fact I ain't had a drink in soooo long but they tasted excellent. Just over £1 a bottle to which is bloody good value.

 If only! Not gonna take a pic of the sofa I generally drink my liquor from.... the one you see in the pic I thought just made for a decent backdrop. :)

As for Rochefort 10....

It is not as good as Chimay Grande Reserve (bleu)! It's not as heavy, and you cannot really chew on it. There's very little hops to taste, but it is quite a smooth drink with a slightly bitter aftertaste. I'm hopeless with flavour, but there is certainly nothing unusual, overpowering or off - it's a very, very pleasant beer. Yes, I would drink it again; but only if Chimay blue was not available! I suppose it is like a watered-down bleu, despite being stronger in content.

Perhaps this might make sense: Chimay bleu is a real beer, Rochefort 10 is a posh beer.

Cannot give you a price for either from the shops as the only place I have been able to buy from is a pub; and from there I got two of each for £16.60. But the quality is worth it!

Posh beer... yeah I know what you mean!

I've got a few bottles of Asahi Black for ermm 2.25am  A Black Japanese lager - and I do like this quite a lot.

You'll have to let us know what it's like as I quite like the regular Asahi...

Tried out Thwaites' Wainwright golden ale last night; very nice.

Well worth a try - nicer than the regular Asahi - but then I'm not its biggest fan.
Thwaites Wainwright is one of the growing number of ales I avoid in principal. Basically, anything Marstons buy out and take over brewing goes on my 'NO' list! Beer snobbery at it's best!

I tried some of Point IPA. An American beer from the Stevens Point Brewery. It's 5.6% ABV. It's dark brown in colour. It's okay as IPAs go - but you can find better. I did find it very gassy and it did make me burp a lot. I still have a fondness for Brewdog's one.

Good on you for your principles. Me, I don't mind trading principles for a nice bottle if the flavour appeals to me

Next one I've got lined up to try is Adnams' Ghost Ship. Tesco were doing a 4 for £6 (which I thought was reasonable enough at £1.50 each) so I also picked up Dr Thirsty, Thwaites Wainwright and Guinnes West Indies...the usual suspects really.
