Forgot about In The Hunt. A wonderful hori-shooter. It looks like Metal Slug in a submarine. It's a slow moving game but it's well worth a look.
Console-wise I have played the PS1 version which has been reported as better than Saturn. It will be MAMEable too.

Completed Gradius yesterday in a pretty heavy day long session, great fun with some extreme frustration too. Mainly the easter island heads and that bit where loads of squares attack gave me problems. I sometimes put my speed up too high as well, which seemed to just make me crash into stuff alot. Found lazers and lots of "options" were best power ups to get.
