Yeah i know what you mean.I know its wrong( so no need for a smart arse answer rodimusprime) but multiplayer in my head is 4 player bomberman or something like that.
Yep, same. Exactly why all the games I listed support more than 2 players. If it had been what are the best 2-player games then my list would have been completely different.

For all you pedants wanting a discussion about nothing : "A multiplayer video game is a video game in which more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time."

Its from WIKIPEDIA, so it MUST be true  8) :?

One of the definitions of "Multi" is "more than one" so two player games are fine.

What with all that food and cider, I think, just once, the Gauntlet II machine could have come out with "BLUE WIZARD NEEDS THE TOILET".
"BADLY."

Quake 3 Arena. My first ever online game thanks to Dreamcast online. This introduced me to the beauty of online FPS games.

Call Of Duty. For some reason I was just amazing at this game. Played this on my PC and at the gaming cafe in town and for some reason I just "got it" right from the start and spent countless hours on this.

3 games immediately spring to mind when it comes to amazing multiplayer experiences:

Saturn Bomberman (Sega Saturn)
Powerstone 2 (Dreamcast)
Daytona USA (Arcade)

Honorable mentions must go to Goldeneye, Pro Evo & the Mario Kart Games.
The square is a great shape, and one that is criminally underused in modern game design. In the push to ever more granular, chaotic environments, games have lost sight of the simple pleasures of right angles and straight lines.

Some that weren't mentioned yet:

- Sonic 3's "competition mode". Super fun with another player but setting records on it's own is fun too. Gives idea for a fan-made hack with more tracks.

- Outlaw. Classic retro MP fun, enough said.

- Battle Tank. This famicom classic is a blast with two players. The level generator is a nice touch too.

- Tennis. Game Boy's ultimate tennis game. With a GB link cable it's a blast. The NES version is nice too, as is Super Tennis for SNES.

- Baseball for NES. It's actually a bit crappy, but it was still fun with another player.

- M.U.S.C.L.E. This was really fun with two or more players. Simplistic fantasy wrestling fun.

- River City Ransom. Can't get much better than this for NES/FC scrolling beat em ups. Only issue is the notable slowdowns.

- Battletoads. The NES version is just a blast. The Arcade version is fun too.

- Lost Vikings. Great puzzle-style platformer. Shines with more players.

I'm sure I could come up with more but let that be enough for now.

Good one :D
Pro Wrestling on the Master System is essentially the same game, lots of fun there.
My comics blog (mostly lesser-known UK stuff from the 80s and 90s)
