HellBall My Retro game demo

Post by 321CannonFodder » Wed Jul 02, 2008 8:20 am

Hi all, here is a demo for my game HellBall it’s a homage to old 8/16 bit platformers I grow up playing. I have posted it on a few gaming sites but mostly its young kids (11 to 15) that use them sites and they don’t really get the game. As this forum is a retro games forum am hoping you guys might enjoy it a little more.

Thanks for taking the time to play and comment on my game Guybrush.
Dizzy is one of my favourite games so I think a little of Dizzy might of rubbed off on to HellBall.

Has anyone found any bugs or ways they think I can improve the game then please lat me know I would really appreciate it. The game is completely free to play and only takes a few seconds to download. It is also 100% virus free in case anyone is worried about that.
Any more info or questions anyone has I would be happy to answer.

Here are a few smaller screenshots of the HellBall Demo:

Well, its a bloody good little game.

Graphics are nice - retro-y and the sound is cool too.

Most annoying bit - exploring levels is great - but OMG not back to the start of that level when you die :o Actually, thats a minor gripe - if you go the wrong way its quite handy

Oh, and I can never remember what baddies kill you

Off for another go :D

Thanks for taking the time to play though HellBall markopoloman.
I think you have defiantly pointed out two quite annoying problems with the game. The first I can fix dead easy by putting in check points, but the other is a bit more problematic. I think I might redesign a few of the enemy characters to make it a bit more clear who can be killed and who can’t. Thanks for pointing them out to me it defiantly helps me improve on the game.

Hope you liked it video-gamer-girl :D

:D Wow that would be amazing :D I don’t think its ready just yet still got problems with the level design and the overall game balancing,
but it wouldn’t take me too long to finish it just a few months (already finished the game once this is a makeover).

If Darran and the Guys would think about putting it in Retro Gamer it would be a dream come true.

I wouldn’t mind how small of a review it would be I would be massively grateful.
I am a genuine big fan of the Retro Gamer and for my game to be in the same Pages as some of the greatest games ever created that would be an honour.

Plus even with the small chance of it being featured would give me the determination to really polish the game to a high level.

(Everything in the game is my own: code, sprites, ect. The game has been made using GameMaker.
The sound FX are Royalty free,
Except the music that’s from VGMusic.com. For the finished version of HellBall I will be using originally composed music.)

If you e-mail Darran personally on his PM and ask him very nicely, I'm sure he will be very pleased and happy to review your game in Retro Gamer Magazine (I hope, please Darran?).

Well done for your efforts on the game once again, I liked it very much.
