What happens when we die?

Post by 1500graham » Tue May 27, 2008 6:17 pm

A new work colleague of mine has turned out to be a medium and has told me there's no heaven or hell! Apparently when we die we go to some kind of spiritual plane, but can also roam the earth doing whatever we want. We can do things that we couldn't afford or never got the opportunity to do when we were alive, such as going to Disney World for example! How bizarre is that? I'm not sure what to believe as i liked the idea of heaven...i mean, who wouldn't?

Any thoughts?
"Conan, what is best in life?"

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women."

I like that!

Personally, I believe your brain ceases functioning and your body starts to rot.

And that's it...

Hmm sounds fun but I like the phrase "turned out to be a medium". Did he just wake up one morning and realise it

I take it (s)he is aware of this new law if they decide to charge you

I really wanted to make a games related joke. Alas, it's already been said.

I find myself in an odd position of being someone who is an atheist, does not believe in the concept of Heaven or Hell, or a spiritual plane, or indeed a Soul; but I still can't 'justify' saying that there's nothing else after life. It's a question I ask myself way too often and i'm still no closer to an answer.

I certainly don't think there is a heaven though. Human beings need to symbolise right and wrong and make some sense of why 'bad things happen to good people'. If there is 'something' after death, then we're all going, Me, you, Pol pot, Hitler, Gandhi and everyone else. Which means that the 'next life' will probably be just as insane and twisted as this one.

I'm Turnip. i bring the happy thoughts.

Remember what it was like before you were born and you didn't exist?

Yeah.

Incidentally, a new work colleague of mine has turned out to be Superman. It's pretty cool.

I don't believe in heaven, hell, afterlifes, reincarnation or any of that other nonsense. Wishful thinking on the part of people who can't face mortality.

You live, you die, that's it. There is no second life, no restart, no continue. You just fade away. All that's left is dead flesh and dissipated electricity.

At the end of the day no one can prove if there is a heaven or hell so 'walking round Disneyland' could just as much happen.

I do believe that you enter some sort of permanent long dream when you die but again who knows, no one does.
