Is this forum going down hill?

Post by GarryG » Thu Jul 12, 2007 5:56 am

This used to be a fairly grown-up forum, but recently there seems to be a lot of close-minded posts, and post just picking fault and arguing for the sake of it.

I don’t mind new people asking the same questions as were previously asked, but there seems to be a lot of new people with an attitude on here now.

I’m fully expecting a lot of childish replies to this now, where I wouldn’t have expected that a year ago!

Other than the ludicrous Atari vs Commodore thread, I don't know what threads you mean.

There are a few idiots (not naming any <names>) but most of these don't last the distance and disappear fairly quickly.

I think the forum is great and I will continue to make the occasional childish / funny (IMO!) comment..........

Didnt notice a huge change in the forum becoming bad or anything.

The stupid Commodore vs Atari (And whatshisname totally slating the Speccy) thread is i think embarassing and gives retro gamers a bad name the way theyre arguing about totally geeky boring rubbish.

Apart from that it seems pretty normal. Havent had any 'mentals' for a while posting weird stuff, place is much better with people such as MH gone.

Yeah it pretty much is but it's nothing to worry about really, as it's just a minor slump many forums go through.

There are people on here who seem to insist that what they say is gospel and will not hear otherwise, but I'm sure the same can be said of any forum.

But that is not really a bad thing.

If we all agreed with everything the chat would be really boring.
I think as long as people remember that this place isn't real, and that what is argued about in here stays in here then there is no problem... :)

If anything I'd say it's getting better here lately, with more new members and posts than ever before...

*puts chocks under the forum's wheels*

There, that should stop it going downhill

Like so much in life, you get out of a forum what you put in. So don't whine about QUALITY, post QUALITY.

There were a number of pretty poor Vs. threads that seemed to draw out the idiotic comments and arguments. During that time I really wasn't enjoying it here, so visited as little as possible.

Other than the Idiots Vs. Sanity (sorry, Atari Vs C64/8bit poll) thread, they all seem to have quietly slipped away.

I have no problem with the topics being discussed and the points raised on this forum, but I have started to notice quite a bit of hostility here recently that is turning it into the house of commons.

Its a shame really, because the magazine is actually the best games publication on the shelves - but some of the posters on this forum really need to relax and enjoy the site more than trying to bait each other into an argument.

The VS thread is the most interesting thing ever on this forum. It actually contained _technical_info_. But we can't have that, can we?
