Name a good tablet for reading comic book scans
Tablets are getting bigger and better for your money now, and I'm wondering if it's possible to get one with a big screen (ie 12") that's not too expensive. This would suit reading scans of the old Marvel comics plus some British ones too (like 2000AD for example). I think 8 and 10 inches is a bit too small- 12 inches would get the whole page on a screen without me needing to scroll up and down so much. Who reads comic books this way, and what tablet do you use?

Main advice with this is, avoid those cheap-o Chinese ones with about 8gb of internal storage, most of that will be taken up with bloatware and Android OS.
Sub 100 seems a good bet
This should be decent

I read Manga on my phone, its mostly ok, until they do those two page things

I use a Surface Pro.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend one just for reading comics, as they're an expensive purchase, but they've got a fantastic screen and also make for a laptop replacement if you get the keyboard.
PS - There's an excellent Moebius/Jodorosky Humble Bundle on at the moment. Incal, Metabarons, and loads more all for about $20:

If it's just for reading comics as a primary function, spec isn't too important, with the exception of screen being as high a res as possible.

Looking at the Surface Pro, that fits the bill perfectly with that 12.3" screen in particular, but as you say it's an expensive purchase. Who knows there might be something similarly sized but cheaper by one of the budget brands.

There's the Surface Go that's a bit cheaper, but it's still not exactly a throwaway price. Below that there are a few Chrome and Android tablets.
I've seen a few good things said about the Chuwi Hipad Plus (I see what they did there) but even that seems like a fair bit to be dropping on a no-name.

I've got an Old Ipad 2 but I'd say avoid anything Fruit based, they don't like long term support and I've still yet to fettle with getting Youtube working again on it, definately leave the cheapo Chinese ones alone too, half of them think they are phones and they run as well as one might expect.
That Alba doesn't look too bad and the Surfaces work pretty well as being essentially a Windows 10 laptop without a keyboard so most stuff should be compatible with it.

The appeal of 12 inch tablets though for me is that they have a screen which is almost A4 sized, making it perfect for reading old comics and magazines, whereas with the 10 inch ones you have to shrink it or scroll up and down a bit. The best price I've seen on Amazon is the Chuwi UBook. It looks alright:Sega2006 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 5:14 pmI've got an Old Ipad 2 but I'd say avoid anything Fruit based, they don't like long term support and I've still yet to fettle with getting Youtube working again on it, definately leave the cheapo Chinese ones alone too, half of them think they are phones and they run as well as one might expect.

Very tempting as that'll be ideal for comics etc, i use an app called Sidebooks (Free) which is excellent. Very tempted to get this

Definitely it's the most impressive on the surface, but maybe someone's got some horror stories about it that explain why it's such a good deal. For comics though (and Crash magazines
Btw I've just installed CDisplayEx and it seems alright, but what does everyone else use? Psj used Sidebooks, but what about the others?

When does a tablet stop being a tablet and just become a touch screen display?psj3809 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 7:28 amLike you Spector i dont want to keep scrolling around reading something.

If only such things had a decent pen style stylus (Not the fat stubby ones)id use one for doodling
Re: Name a good tablet for reading comic book scans
Display just means the screen, a tablet has a touch screen display same as a Car Dash computer has a touch screen display.
