Jean-Michel Jarre - Equinoxe Infinity - Out November 16th

The Godfather of Electronic music sequel to his classic 1978 album Equinoxe.
After his rather excellent grammy award nominated Electronica album, and the rather so-so Oxygene 3
Although, I think some of the tracks don't really sound like anything on the original.
Here is what has been released on Youtube so far.

Track one, is quite dark, sounds a little First Rendez-Vous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK-PQoU ... entroCifad

Track two, rather nice. First two tracks have a bit of Vangelis sound I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mULr-gn ... úlH.Cortés

Track three is a bit odd, Sort of Oxygene meet Chronologie but it's growing on me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTnP6Mp ... lJarreVEVO

Track eight, is rather good especially the last minute. This one was has been out a while as he played it at recent concerts but he's decided to put it on this album:

Track 6 has been leaked on the net, but I won't post it here. It's very poppy and sounds more like something for his ill-fated Teo & Tea album. Not sure about it!
There will be 10 Tracks (Movements) in all.

And for anyone who hasn't heard anything from the original

I like Jarre, but feel that time has left him behind. Went to two Paris concerts and Docklands but after Teo & Tea... I kinda stopped listening to new stuff.

Will give this a good listen to though.

I had no idea this was happening. Cheers for the heads up.

I've loved Jarre since I was about 12 and finally got to see him live in Birmingham about 5 or 6 years ago. One of the best gigs ever!

I quite liked both the sequels to Oxygene, they were an evolution to the sound of the original.

He took some time away after losing the plot with T&T.
Electronica 1 & 2 are well worth a listen though.

I liked Teo and Tea, more so than Electronica.

Quite a few people did. It went down well in the nightclub scene.
But JMJ himself says he wishes he hadn't done it, and it doesn't even appear in his discography on his official website.
Apart from "Vintage", it just wasn't for me.
Still I admire the way he tries everything - from super ambient (Waiting for Cousteau) to Techno, even if it doesn't always work.

Funny you mention Waiting for Cousteau, as that was the one massive let down I've had from him. Bought it on release, I could count on one hand the number of plays its had.

I can't see why he'd disown it, since it was 'modern Jarre' to me, more so than revisiting his back catalogue and just extending those as he's doing now. Not that I don't like the new Oxygene's, but it seems a bit of a cop out sticking to well trodden themes rather than doing something with a newer sound.

I like WfC but there again I like Brian Eno's work, and this is similar to Eno's best.

I wasn't impressed with Oxygene 3. Jarre said he did it because it was the 40th anniversary of the original and he wanted to see if he could complete it in 6 weeks like he did the original, and to me it sounds rushed.

1997's Oxygene 7 to 13 album is imo his last very good solo studio album. Oxygene 8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVEAk5L ... =JohnBerge
is my most played track apart from Ethnicolor (Captain Blood for Amiga fans) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jMg7ea ... d%E2%80%A3

But going back to T&T, it was "new" Jarre which some people liked, but his die hard fans hated. He did minimal publicity for it and instead went on a 30th anniversary Oxygene tour, in which he dug out all his old analogue equipment, which looks very impressive.

I should go on Amazon and shop some of his catalogue.
I have been to two of his concerts here in Norway - the first was recreating the first(?) album with only the old analogue instruments, the second was with some real fancy sound setup that put the musicians in front and all the amps and speakers behind them behind a curtain. Both were great stuff.

Out today, and getting some very good reviews.
Having listened to it for a while, it's not up there with the original or the first two Oxygene albums, or the still amazing Zoolook, but imo it's his best solo work for 20 years.

Wow. Didn't know about this. Equinoxe is my favourite Jarre album. Don't really like his post 90's stuff except for Oxygene vol3, which really grew on me. Think I'll have to get this!
