RIP James (Jim) Langmead

Post by deKay » Mon Jun 04, 2007 3:36 pm

It is with sadness that I'm posting this news, but I've just heard that James Langmead, who ran (amongst other things) Speccy Spoilers, has passed away.

For the last few years, he suffered from Crohn's disease, and in the latter half of last year he was admitted to hospital where he spent several months. I last had contact from him on Christmas day, and he was soon to be undergoing surgery. He was very underweight and weak.

It seems that things didn't improve, and he died at the end of March.

I never met Jim, but have conversed with him many times on IRC, comp.sys.sinclair and various other forums. He was always friendly, and despite the constant pain it never seemed to get him down and he had a wicked sense of humour.

I'm posting this here as I know many of the forum regulars knew of him, and he also appeared in an early issue of RG, talking about Speccy Spoilers.

RIP, Jim.

Always sad to hear of the death of a staunch retro supporter.

Not someone I knew.

Sounds like someone I certainly should have.

I've had email contact from Jim's mum, Sue. She's thanked everyone for their kind comments here and elsewhere.

I asked her if there was a charity she thought would be suitable for anyone who wishes to donate something in Jim's memory, and the NACC (http://www.nacc.org.uk/content/home.asp) was suggested.
