Deadpool, the most complained about film in 2016

Post by dste » Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:11 am

The BBFC have released their annual report for 2016 and Deadpool was the most complained about with 51 complaints.

The 15 rated film received complaints for strong, bloody violence, strong language and sex references.

Next in line were:

Suicide Squad - 30 complaints
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children - 20 complaints
Sausage Party - 19 complaints
10 Cloverfield Lane - 18 complaints
Batman vs Superman - 10 complaints

It's such a shame that we have no way to read up on there films before release/watching them...

Its a pretty poor show all round imo when it's so easy to complain these days. I'd hope for anything I like to generate at least 100. With complaints that low, how am I supposed to judge whether something I've missed is worth a visit? 500 complaints would be essential viewing, 250 something to save for the weekend, but 51 is hardly even noticeable.

What do these people expect them to do? Wipe their memory of the film Men In Black style? Censor the DVD release to appease the 51 people who won't be buying it anyway?

When a movie gets an 18 it's saying it's for adults, which means those who sit down to watch it should be old and mature enough to take responsibility for, and deal with, what they expose themselves to. I appreciate Deadpool was a 15 but I doubt any 15 year olds complained.

Unfortunately the BBFC do not take in to account fan boy/internet comments as I would imagine that you would be able to add at least a couple of noughts to the number.

I think the complaints about Deadpool would be far less if it had an 18 rating rather than a 15. By their own admission the BBFC rather bent their own rules on account of it not taking itself too seriously and tempering the ultra-violence with some tongue-in-cheek humour. It doesn't so much break the fourth wall, as invite the audience in for a friendly chit-chat.

I doubt Marvel or 20th Century Fox were complaining though. A lower rating gives them a bigger audience, and a bit of controversy probably won't harm the DVD sales either.

What were people who went to see these films expecting? To be fair though Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children is pretty intense for a movie marketed at pre-teens, but that's why it's a 12A and not a PG, but most people seen to think 12A means 'it'll be ok for my kids to see it as long as I'm with them', not 'it's rated for people 12 and over but younger kids might be ok if they can handle things that are fairly scary'. When was the last time anything had it's rating changed after complaints anyway?

I really wish I had nothing better to do than complain about the content of films. What a sad life these people must live, all wrapped in cotton wool and shielded from all the bad things. Grow a pair of balls you sad idiots, get a life and just remember, a film is a means of escape from life, in most cases a form of fantasy world where anything can happen. Swearing and violence are on tv everyday, sex is in our soaps shown at times when kids are still about and before the watershed. Rant over!

I was actually surprised at how little violence Deadpool had to be honest. i thought it would be up there with Kick-Ass but sadly not.
