I just searched out this music video I did as a 15 year old with clips from a cartoon.

250,000 views   people have too much time on their hands.

Agree Shin with regards to those kinds of informative/hardcore let's plays. I was referring more to the videos with people actively commenting, trying to be funny, trying to act

Nice to see so many people passionate about what they do, I envy them in that respect :)

Better than those with verbal diarrhoea that talk about nothing and talk a lot about it

Or people with annoying music on in the back ground

because they are needy, attention seeking misfits who crave their fifteen minutes of fame.

putting up vids showing pure gameplay or walkthroughs etc is not too bad and can be quite helpful, it's when you have the cretins who feel the need to have constant commentary or stand in front of the camera and present it like some kind of tv show.

Well, that's very to the point but, yes. Spot on.
Not the case for everyone obviously but the vast majority.
Most will say it's because they enjoy it but it's not the real reason.
They want attention. Recognition.
Real life dull and empty? Create a YouTube channel and show the world your real personality.

LOL, harsh but fair in a lot of cases.

I have to admit I am the opposite in a way as the gameplay only vids bore me, and I like the ones that are presented, but only if done well. just a pity a very small amount of youtubers manage to do it well.

Bit ironic that the original question(s) in this thread are posted on a forum where we all log in and tell people what we've bought or are playing...

I only watch a few Youtube channels myself. Mostly just the AVGN and DPrinny's videos which amuse me (especially when the parrot randomly attacks the camera).

Blogs, Youtube etc. are not really any different to coming on here and telling people what you're playing or what you've bought. Deep down we want somebody to reply or read what we've typed or else there'd be zero point in even posting it in the first place. Social media is also the same core idea.

At the end of the day, I've found out about a lot of games and related stuff that I might have otherwise missed had I not read a certain blog or watched a specific Youtube video so there is that.

Can't stand unboxings, package videos or any of that though.

nonsense, people post on forums to have discussions with like minded people, whether it be football, games, movies etc, that is simply not the case with youtube.

many who post up vids will disable comments so there is no chance of any communication, they do this because although they want people to watch they absolutely cannot handle any criticism. and even users who allow comments will very rarely post much back other than the standard "thanks for watching" etc.

I wouldn't disable comments personally but YouTube comments are full of the worst examples of people on the internet. I can see why some people might not want to engage in that.

^I can disagree with that, they are bad, but they aint Facebook bad,

I keep my comments on, any trolls (that I have had in the past) get blocked and reported

as well as those "1st" posters

Started my blog as something to do, with no clear intentions, but it soon became all about documenting a whole comics-scene that existed here from the late 1980s till the mid 1990s that's hardly been discussed any where else before. Had loads of fun doing it, speaking to a load of the folk who made the things, even got Christmas cards off a few of them this year.

It's more of a social thing than anything. YouTube though... Had a go at it a few years ago but found I didn't have anything "new" to bring to the Internet so left it. Would never put myself in a video, can't stand photos or the sound of my own voice, let alone seeing them both on screen at once

^I don't visit any blogs but I have visited yours after you linked to it several months ago.
I'm not a "comic fan" although I did get the Beano in my younger years and Oink at high school.
It's well done and the scans are great quality.
Have visited many times since and enjoy looking and reading the obscure stuff.

You've picked the right format for the subject and I doubt it would work as well on YouTube.
It's only focus is the subject matter.

Unfortunately, others can't grasp that and think any old tripe is worthy of a video.
Main focus: Look at me!!!!!!
Subject matter: Secondary

Thanks, Mr. stvd - really appreciate that :D

I do stray in to "personal" stuff occasionally, but try not to too much... First time I've had a compliment on the scanning quality, cheers muchly :D :D :D

Been meaning to say for ages how much I love your blog.
It is quite simply one of the most interesting resources on the internet. I've lost hours on there reading through old comics I half remember.
Thank you for your time and effort!
