You can't kill Lemmy it is impossible!! Very sad news, something makes me think he at least went out on his own terms.

I was never really into Motorhead apart from the ubiquitous Ace Of Spades and I never really rated him as a vocalist or bass player but that's just my opinion, there's no denying Lemmy was a bit of a rock icon and will be missed by millions.

I sort of feel the same. Motorhead didn't really do it for me. Didn't realise he was in Hawkwind until the news this morning.

He's certainly a memorable character though, and was always good to watch whenever he was interviewed or turned up in movies and stuff. His legend goes beyond Motorhead imo.

I had the pleasure to meet him backstage a few years ago after Motorhead headlined at a festival in Norfolk that I played, he was very cordial and polite and extremely interesting to listen to as he chatted about his experiences and life the universe and everything whilst eating weed. He told us his doctor said he wasn't allowed to smoke weed anymore so he'd started eating it, he was swigging on a bottle of spirits but told us it was apple juice as his doctor had told him he couldn't drink anymore. I think his true rabble rousing days ended with the onset of health problems in the early noughties... after that it was all about image and public/stage persona.

He did start having JD on the rocks when the doc said "You need to drink more water" a few years ago

Motorhead, the song, classic that it is, was originally a Hawkwind B-side.

Lemmy's a legend of course. He was a really nice bloke to talk to if you ever met him. Very down to earth about his status in the rock world. His presence will be missed. Any Motorhead "Best Of" compilation is worth a play today imo.

From Blabbermouth, Lemmy had cancer in his brain and neck:
The band's longtime manager Todd Singerman has revealed to Sky News that Lemmy went to hospital two days after his 70th- birthday party at the Whisky A Go Go club in Hollywood, California on December 13 because he wasn't feeling well. Although his doctors initially said he was fine, they decided to do a brain scan before releasing him because "his speech was seeming a little odd. We wanted to see if maybe [he'd had] a minor stroke." The scan uncovered tumors in Lemmy's brain and neck.

Singerman told Sky News on Monday: "Nobody had any idea, we just learned Saturday, two days ago, that he even had cancer, and the doctor told him he had between two to six months to live. He [died] today as I was making calls to [his MOTÖRHEAD bandmates] Phil [Campbell] and Mikkey [Dee], telling them to come on out so they could have a last goodbye while he was still upbeat and everything. He was feeling mighty low... He wasn't expected to die like that."

Singerman added: "He [Lemmy] gets home [from tour], we have a big birthday party for him at the Whisky A Go Go. His friends came down and played. Two days later, I could tell he wasn't feeling good, so we took him to the hospital, they release him, then after the brain scan they found the cancer in his brain and his neck... The doctor comes with the result a couple of days later and says... it's terminal."

Despite Lemmy's well-documented health issues over the last two years, Singerman said the cancer diagnosis "caught everyone by surprise. [Cancer] was the last thing we thought he would ever have. When you think about it, he has been to every doctor and hospital around the world and nobody caught that... That comes as a massive shock."

Apparently he died while playing his favourite gambling machine

SO instead of doing all the usual things people do when they find out they are going to die, he just does what he enjoys and dies doing it

As an aside, good to see a few folk into Hawkwind here. A favourite band of mine for sure.
