Personally I'm more looking forward to seeing this than Star Wars.

There's also a viral site http://www.warof1996.com/ that gives some info on what happened to Smith and Goldlum's characters since the original film.

Looks fun, even without Will Smith. The original is one of my ultimate guilty pleasures with a great cast and well-directed action sequences. Also one of the last major blockbusters to use mostly practical effects, a lot of which still stand up today

lacked the silliness of the original (which was a giant B movie) and seemed to be a bit po faced

I thought it looked a bit dull.

Yeah, this looks a bit dull. The original was crap, but at least it was over the top stupid and entertaining

bizarrely it looks like the new Star Trek is too silly and the new Independence Day is too serious....

This time around, Jeff Goldblum will use an Apple Watch.

The first one was pretty good. Yes, it was cheesy in places - but it poked fun at itself and the genre(the nods to things like Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The X-Files - having Brent Spiner, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum in it) - it didn't pretend to be high art. It was a B movie, but done with some flair and imagination. You see, I'm not sure what they're going do with this film? The story was pretty much tied up in the first one - and with this - where do they go? Hmmmm.

Lets hope you still use some practical effects, like the idea they've used their technology to help fight back!

I know it wouldn't make for a good movie but has there ever been aliens in movies that didn't have better technology than us? The Ewoks maybe.

I wouldn't say I dislike Will Smith but I probably like the look of this movie more without him.
Pratty's trade list, updated (May 2019)!

Lets hope we got anti-virus, or is that the plot twist?

My thoughts exactly. The first one is an entertaining, 'USA saving the world' film with cliched patriotic music in the background and a lot of amusing moments. Enjoyable 90's rubbish that I'll happily watch whenever it's on TV or I fancy re-watching something on DVD.

This sequel looks like yet another futuristic film with lasers. Another candidate for the "less than £5 on DVD before I watch it" category.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.
