Raspberry Pi 2

Post by rossi46 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 5:03 pm

Anyone got one of these beauties yet?

I'm posting this on mine. The difference between the new one and my old Model B+ is incredible.

Quad-core 900mhz Arm7 chip (overclocked to 1.1ghz) and 1gb RAM for £30. It's astounding. Completely backwards-compatible with all my old projects and stuff.

It's physically almost identical to the last one, so 99% of the 3rd party cases fit no problem. I have mine going into my monitor through a HDMI to VGA converter, so picture quality is awesome. Best of all, youtube and other flash-based sites run straight out the box.

Best £30 I ever spent (and I've been with hooers!)
Thoughts and prayers.

Inevitable question - emulation?

I tried it on my RPi 1 and it took too long to load up. What's it like for that?

Potentially a stupid question - but here goes...

If i've for instance set up Chameleon Pi on an SD card for my current Raspberry Pi, will that work on the new model right away?

Sounds great its much more powerful

Never got a Raspberry Pi but this new one sounds like it could be brilliant for a small arcade machine etc

Doubtful, most dirtros out there need an updated one for the Pi 2 (different architecture) and Chameleon Pi website looks like it hasn't been updated for nearly a year

You need the Arm7 architecture update. Open a terminal and type: sudo apt-get update [return] then: sudo apt-get upgrade [return] to get the latest build. Your existing rpi sd card won't work on the new pi til you do this.

Got one but only played with OSMC so far!

Only had a B rev1 (256mb) and B rev2 (512mb) of the pi 1 so I needed a new case.

Will set up a emulation card soon though I think!

Cheers guys, I think i'll grab one and give it a try (thanks for the upgrade suggestions Rossi46). Basically i've got a standard Pi in a C64 case with a Keyrah device that I take to shows which has a version of Chameleon Pi on it, so would be good to upgrade it to something a bit more powerful.
