Poll - Who would you vote for NOW.

Post by markopoloman » Mon Feb 16, 2015 7:16 pm

So, there is a good election debate going on and with around 80 days left before we go to the polls, IF the election was being done now, who would you vote for?

This will run for 20 days then I'll post another poll to see if anything has changed.... Comment on this or continue the 'mass'debate over here http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtop ... =6&t=50390

I wonder how close this forum is to the rest of the population......

Tories for me. Need another few years to get the economy totally sorted. Labour i still cant forgive them for messing up the country and the Iraq war. Lib Dems a wasted vote

As for 'not voting' thats obviously a complete waste.

I'll probably go Lib Dem again. Don't want Tory or Labour, and not convinced SNP is worth my time at present. I'm hoping the mess they've made as a coalition doesn't represent how they'd be on their own.

Probably the Greens, I don't ever recall a time where I've been as disillusioned with politics as I am right now.

If the only reason I vote is to keep the racist arseholes and the "rob from the poor, give to the rich" arseholes out rather than because I think that somebody will do a particularly good job then that's not exactly a ringing endorsement of anyone.

I wouldn't trust a one of them with a quid to buy me a Mars bar, never mind run the country.

PS Just the English, Welsh & Scottish parties? I guess Northern Ireland has floated off into the Atlantic. :?

No more a waste than voting Labour in a Tory safe seat. Or indeed voting Tory in a Tory safe seat! It's just not that simple. Perhaps 'waste' is the wrong word (not condemning your use of it, I just mean generally in political discourse)?

What if none of the candidates appeal (and there is not option to register your dissatisfaction)? What if one doesn't agree with the voting system and all that it entails? What is one doesn't agree with party politics, or abhors how general elections have become about party leaders and not constituent representatives (which is what the vote is actually for)? What if one accepts that it's the civil service who actually run government anyway (and perhaps thankfully, too!)? What is someone feels that they don't have a firm enough grasp and understanding of the issues enough to make such a decision?

There are many, many good reasons and justifications for not voting. Rational Choice Theory supports non-voting (as things currently stand; a change over to proportional representation could alter that). It's not always about apathy, either.

Sorry, but this idea that non-voting is 'wasteful' or 'lazy' is a real bugbear of mine!

I'm asuming all the Tory voting is related to this being a Retro Games forum and us all getting misty eyed about the 80's?

Wasn't that the gist of one of Labour's campaign posters at the last election?! Sure they did something along those lines (the 80s, not Retro Games).

EDIT: Found it, was thinking of this: Image

Swap the Quattro for a CPC-464.

As a retro gamer, I'd love to be taken back to the 80s! Straight to the nearest arcade.

I'm voting green because none of the other parties represent my own interests and I think if Greens are to ever become serious they'd have to compromise on some of their more unpopular policies.
