Do you keep or bin Video's and DVD's

i keep mine
they are so dirt cheap its just not worth the effort to bin em
and i like to rip my own dvd's

if something does happen to my hd's i can at least re rip everything again ( an ungodly prospect but at least i can )

Or you could just RAID your hard drives and keep a backup.

Wow, I'm learning a lot here! Ripping DVDs was exciting enough, and now this RAID thing?

I've currently got 829gb of videos sitting on an external hard drive, might be a good idea to do the RAID thing on them. 10,789 separate videos, mostly individually downloaded, ouch!

The only VHS I keep are natty porn videos I have purchased when U was a teen, and softcore fluff recorded off the likes of Television X back in the mid to late 90's. I just cant get rid of it, as the second I did, I'd massively regret it.

Ditto my DVD collection. 718 Adult blue movies that will always keep me warm in winter. I won't need heating when I'm a pensioner, thats for sure

I hardly watch dvds anymore, just find it frustrating sitting through 3 minutes of 'you wouldnt copy a film....' crap. I like to copy the mp4 films onto my Freesat player and then watch it via that. Just quicker, same for my iphone, copy the videos onto that.

Sell some on ebay, sell some on music magpie for peanuts, frees up space, most of my dvds were just gathering dust. I just keep my absolute favourites now

Totally got out of the 'buy every film i can on dvd and tell all my mates i have 50000 dvds' type of thing, i was like a hording addict, ridiculous all these dvds, i watch once and they sit on the shelf. I now stream them/rent them via Netflix/itunes for films i know i'll only probably watch once

Back in the good old days. I had a lot of Star Trek on VHS (not record, shop bought) 2 episodes per tape. I had all of Voyager and a lot of DS9, sold the lot for a tenner. I also at one point had 250+ DVDs they all went to music magpie 2+ years ago. I wife got a really nice custom dress out of it, they used to just take up space. Now I have about 40ish blu rays they just sit gathering dust, I am sure the last blu ray a picked up all I did was open the case to get the digital code so I could watch the film that way the disc has never been in the drive. I do have 4tb worth off films sitting, however that never get used anymore. It is all Netflix, and other digital services now. As a collector I love physical media but I do not have enough space for all my games let alone DVD's and VHS tapes. If you have ever seen the documentary about VHS collectors then you will know how much space they could take up. In saying that I do have 5 VHS tapes and a player, mainty 80s films I loved as a kid that I picked up for 10p. The player was my late granddads and was not cheap back in the the day that is why I am keeping that. I also have a small laser disc collection (50ish) a very cool format, however right now the discs and player are in a cupboard (again space). VHS tapes 99% of the time are worth F all, hell even charity shops will not take them. DVD's are going the same way it used to be music magpie would give you min 30p a film that has changed when my mate did it in july it was 10p a film !

Youd be suprised how much the odd hard to get vhs tape goes for. There are collectors everywhere. I had a few tapes on Amazon. One was with the late corey haim -just one of the girls- that raked me in £20. The most I had for a single tape was £40 for a film called "little sweethearts" with john hurt in... so doing a bit of homework is worth it sometimes.
Shlock 80s horror that isnt available on dvd is highly sought after.

We still have around twenty videos that are mainly Disney films that we are yet to replace on DVD. There are also some music videos and films that cost a bit on DVD still like Truly, Madly, Deeply.

DVD wise I very rarely buy these days due to lack of time and there not being that much stuff where I feel that I really want to own it. Plus every now and then I have a clear out of some that I probably won't watch again and they end up sold on the cheap or given to charity shops.

You don't happen to have Enchanted Castle on Video do you? I know it exists in the BBC vaults maybe if I tell them I want it for educational purposes

A lot of really cool horror only exists on Video luckily I have video rips of Ghost House (with the evil Ghost Girl and Clown) and several other horror films that never got dvd releases on USB.> If my USB ever knackered or got lost I've had it as I have all 8 series of Knightmare, all series of Gamesmaster all the Skeleton Warriors and Uylessus cartoons, as well as several obsolete BBC childrens programs like come back Lucy..

Add in all the Horror films that are Video only never replace them...

Healthy Planet in town gives video's away for free and the Charity shop sells 20 video's for £1

Put it on ebay the other year to get some dosh as we just moved house, went for £3 ! Hardly worth selling it at that price but i had to honor the deal. DVD players seem to go for total peanuts now

I hear you there, exactly what I did, I eventually unplugged it, as it was so big and now it resides under stuff in the bedroom, I keep meaning to plug it in again as I have some old film called My Grandpa is a Vampire (with Al Lewis from the Munsters in it) its not out on DVD and have not found a rip of it, so quite want to get that converted over to DVD..in time for Haloween

We have a Panasonic combi player and I think it's invaluable for transferring stuff off home-made VHS to DVD. Things like old holiday tapes shot on the mini VHS camcorders, TV recordings, full Formula 1 races etc. Some of the stuff is worth keeping so it got burnt to loose discs that are kept in a storage case. Great for finally being able to bin mountains of VHS tapes and not worry about losing what's on them!

There were loads of documentaries on tape too (recorded from TV) which will never be seen again so those were also saved.

I always check charity shops for the VHS of Star Wars Episode III as I seem to remember that having a bit of value to it.

i remember all those mystical (to a ten year old anyway) teen sex romp film of the 80s that did the rounds with names like Hot Bubblegum and jungle burger etc, teen disney films that rarely get a look in like student exchange or teen witch, these rarely get official dvd releases and can be sought after.

i remember cheech and chong stuff used to be sone peoples holy grail...not my kind of stuff though.

A lot of AAA actors made their debuts in crap horrors of the 80s -brad pitt being in Freddys nightmares for instance.
