Raspberry Pi

I got a RPi last week and what an amazing little machine it is.

Mine is the latest Model B+ one with the 4 USB ports and 512mb ram. I'm typing this on it right now via mini keyboard and HD monitor.

I got a small clear case and 64GB sd card for it, running Raspbian OS. I think I'm going to put it into use as a torrent station and emulator machine, if I can configure my USB gamepad.

Any other Rasp Pi fans here?

I got one, never use it.
I was going to use it as part of a PCed Spectrum, but modding the keyboard for it was iffy.

Now I got a £50 android set top box that does all the Pi can do and much more

It might make a return when this Blutooth Spectrum keyboard comes out

i would like to try one myself, sorta reminds me of the MSX on a chip thingy.

How much are these raspberry things? seems to beso many variations.

It's the linux-tinkering that appeals to me. And it has that nostalgic Amiga-esque smell of expansion boards and configuring stuff.

As a long time Linux user, I'm in my element messing about on the command line.

Plus it comes with programming apps and tutorials.

Best £28 I ever spent.

I used a Pi to make a C=64 some time ago here It was good fun, but you have to learn some verbose commands sharpish to decompress tarballs etc to compile the emulators. However that was when I tried mine, there are plenty of easy to install emulators that can be installed now.

The B+, the model you have is a welcome upgrade for most users as people tend to made media players from them, but as the AV out is dropped on it, one wonders if the mission to get anyone and everyone coding on anything mantra is slowly dropping and it is becoming just another hacker tool.

I admit the compo out was something that I liked on it, plug it into a old CRT and use MAME on it.

Me too, they are keeping the 'original model B' maybe for this purpose.

the improvements are,
There are now 40 GPIO pins vs. 26 on Model B
The SD card is now Micro SD
There are 4 USB ports, thats two more than the original.
The mounting holes are symmetrical and the corners of the PCB are rounded, making it a nicer form.

To be honest, I have had more fun building things for it than actually using it. Although running a VNC server on it means that you can access it via a standard pc. I get my buzz from learning how to code from other kits.

It's ace. When my workload calms down, I intend to dive into learning Python.

I would highly recommend this rossi46 meltwater's LEDs

We’ve aligned the USB connectors with the board edge, moved composite video onto the 3.5mm jack, and added four squarely-placed mounting holes.

Looks like composite lives on!

I'm interested in how well MAME works on the PI as I fancy making a bartop arcade with one.

You can go smaller than that. Seen somebody make a tiny cab using a RaPi, if only the joysticks and buttons worked.

Might work on mine sometime and stick it in one of my massive 2 player joysticks for a all in one thing

Ahh, I missed that,sorry, well found.

If there is stereo and a video signal out of one socket I guess you need a four band 3.5mm jack and you will be a rockin and a rolling with mame on a CRT again!

Does it run Neogeo titles and capcom games well?
