The Young Ones was an integral part of my adolescence. Even my mother liked him (cos as Rick he was a Cliff Richard fan). Genuinely saddened. :(

RIP.

RIP Rik. Very sad - as he was only 56. It could have been a fit caused by his quad bike accident that caused his death - we'll have to wait for the corner's report.

I think he's best remembered for his comedic work : The Young Ones(which he co-wrote as well), Bottom(also co-wrote as well), The New Statesman and his guest appearances in Blackadder. There's loads of other comedic stuff as well. He did a few dramatic roles in later years, and it has to be said was pretty good at them.

I grew up on reruns of Bottom and The New Statesman, and was fortunate enough to see him performing the stage version of the latter. A sad loss.

Does anyone remember Rik Mayall Presents? It was a 6 individual drama stories on ITV about '93 I think. He wrote them all I believe, the best of which was Dancing Queen where he is supposed to get married but ends up stranded in Scarborough with a stag night stripper, played by Helena Bonham Carter. I'll have to dig it out, got it on VHS somewhere I think.

RIP
Not really my type of humour, although I can acknowledge his input into British comedy.

A bit of Rik fun, in memoriam:

Part 1 bob - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te_Ni1O_Jcs
Part 2 bob- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbqKGMHxteA
Alternative cliff- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P_hCbORq_s
Classic pop vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_BxxjFENMQ

Watch them all, folks - he deserves to be remembered.

"I feel sorry for you, you zeros, you nobodies. What's going to live on after you die? Nothing, that's what! This house will become a shrine! And punks and skins and Rastas will all gather round and all hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader! And all the grown-ups will say, 'But why are the kids crying?' And the kids will say, 'Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!' ... And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, 'Why kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?"

Knew nothing of this: http://news.uk.msn.com/uk/fans-push-los ... owards-no1

His fighting spirit in the video should be spat out at our boys to get them playing like proud Englishmen. Just like Rik.
