56? That's absolutely no age at all to depart. :(

Huge fan since I was almost certainly too young to actually be watching most of his stuff. As well as the obvious I'd also like to give honourable mentions to Filthy Rich & Catflap and The Comic Strip (Mr Jolly Lives Next Door being a particular favourite).

That's definitely put a black mark on my day. RIP.

Was blown away by this News , you always think that these comedy greats have immortality and that they'll be here forever for the entertainment and enjoyment they bring to so many people, Young Ones, Bottom, New Statesman, simply brilliant and one of the most animated and energetic people that ever graced TV..you will be very sadly missed.

.R.I.P. Rik.

I think The Young Ones, Bottom and maybe The New Statesman would go down has his greatest performances, but I've also got fond memories of him as Kevin Turvey from a Kick Up The Eighties. The last thing I saw him in was Man Down, which wasn't great, although he was pretty much its saving grace.
Might well of been to do with the quad bike accident. After that happened he had to take medication for life to prevent life threatening seizures. Suffer from epilepsy myself and it's not nice to think something could happen at the wrong time.

Never think about it often but it does crop up from time to time.

He will be missed. Even loved his bombardier beer adverts.

Bollocks! Grew up watching Bottom in the 90's, very sad news indeed. Hope Ade Edmondson is coping okay with it, was never sure if there was a rift between them two in later years.

Going off now to dig out my Bottom and Young One DVD's and have another flick through his Autobiography.

What a shame. Rik was a real talent, gutted about this. Whenever I think of Rik I always grin, he has that effect.
