Do you love the Goonies?

Post by crusto » Sun Jun 08, 2014 10:54 pm

I'm currently watching best films of the 80's on channel 5 and am yet to see this featured... It's probably my favourite film of the 80's overall, and I think it's aged brilliantly. My kids absolutely love it, and I love watching it with them.

Yep, it's brilliant, although I sincerely doubt it would get made today. It would be denounced as fatist, ablist, racist, who knows what else.

I don't think it was that good to start with and it's aged quite badly, certainly one of the few films from my younger years I've no desire to watch today.

No, not then, not now. I'm glad other people like it though.

It's harmless enough I suppose, but life's too short to waste 90 minutes watching The Goonies again.

Come to think of it I've never been a big fan of films with kids in prominent roles, even when I was a kid myself.

That whole list was in the wrong order. Apart from no 1. And no Robocop, Terminator, Aliens, Commando, Predator , Over the Top , Breakdance and many more?

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to not see many of them, but I think the idea of the list was films that typified and were icons of the 80s. Terminator, Robocop and Aliens (great and classic as all three are) were not examples of 80s culture in their settings and style. Why Empire Strikes Back wasn't in there too.

Chunk is the best character, absolutely hilarious. The interrogation scene is fantastic.

I've never seen the attraction, I thought it was terrible and really wouldn't want to sit through a second viewing. I wasn't its target audience though, being 15 on its release I'm too old. It just reminds me of all the twee kids shows and movies I didn't like as a child.
