Best thing about being in Canada is that no one gives a toss about the bloomin world cup. Bliss!

If anyone bet on Spain getting absolutely marmalised they're either genuinely blessed with psychic powers or a compulsive liar. Surely no-one saw this coming?

I did. I thought it would be a high scoring defeat for Spain. Just look at my earlier quote on this thread:
Spector wrote: Holland are good to watch, but take some wide awake pills for this one, cause Spain are gonna try and pass a billion television viewers to sleep. I can't see how it's going to be anything other than 0-0 or 1-0.
Er....

   And Spain even took the lead first... was the PK justified? I got no signal from the satellite during the replay :? I must say that it felt somehow good to hear the crowd shouting "olè" for the Dutch in the last minutes, after years of tiki-taka by Spain :P

Costa should have been sent off - probably will be banned retrospectively. Seriously, why would you do such a thing when the game was balanced on a knife edge? Can't even say it's out of character for him, because it isn't.

With a 4 goal deficit from the first game, Spain are now going to struggle to qualify for the next stage.

Tbh I don't think that Spain were half as bad as the commentators were saying; they just couldn't handle Robben's pace. If Silva had scored to make it 2-0, it could have been a very different night. When they went 2-1 down , they lost all discipline and that is the only reason they got beat so heavily; they could in fact have scored 3 or 4 themselves.

How will they play against Chile? Who knows. But to qualify (given the goal deficit from the first game) they will probably have to win by at least 2, possibly 3.

If Spain beat Chile by any margin then the only way for Chile to go through is by beating Holland, and I don't think they'll do that... I'm assuming everyone beats Australia, which we can't say for sure!

Yep, it's still very open for Spain. They have no margin and must win both games, but if they do they'll have their octave finals against Brazil. Maybe with David De Gea defending their goal.

I think the Spanish will have a crisis of confidence. Chile will prove tough opposition and will likely result in a draw. The Aussies, regardless of the result tonight (they're still in it 2-1 down and fighting well, though Cahill's yellow was stupid) and the probably thrashing by Holland, will nonetheless be fired-up for the Spain game.

Goal difference is against Spain. And that will be their downfall.

Holland - 9
Chile - 4
Spain - 4
Australia - 0

And from Group A as next round opponents:

Brazil - 9
Croatia - 6
Mexico - 3
Cameroon - 0

So, into the Quarters will go Holland and Chile (Brazil have not played enough competition opponents, and will find Chile just too tough to break down).

It was looking like Chile would crush the Aussies but they're giving a damn good go of it now. Have to get up for work at 7 but the game is proving too interesting now

Great days World Cup footer.
Robben was my man of the match, despite RVPs diving heroics.
Unlucky Aussies also.
