Any German speakers? (I need help!)

Post by RuySan » Mon Jan 06, 2014 9:14 am

Hi, I need to translate the following sentence to German:

«In order to access this information we conducted an international questionnaire to paper and book conservators. It was distributed by DistList and had participants from 20 different countries.»

Google translate gives me the following, which i suppose there's a big chance that it sounds stupid and/or hilarious:

«Um Zugriff auf diese Informationen führten wir eine internationale Fragebogen an Papier-und Buchrestauratoren. Es wurde von DistList verteilt und hatten die Teilnehmer aus 20 verschiedenen Ländern.»

Is this translation ok, or what kind of changes must be done?

They mean exactly the same thing. The translation is sound, I just asked a German speaking lady from my work. :D

Well thats good news.

One method you can try if you didn't get to to a German speaker is to use Google translate to translate it back from German in to English (it was spot on).

On a side note, it' amusing to take a simple phrase and keep changing it in to different languages and then eventually back in to English to see how it has been changed.
