Pity the topic was de-railed as I was going to post that Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy were two of the least enjoyable games I ever played in the 8-bit days.

You could always try one of the countless other Most Overrated/Worst/games you hated but everyone else loved threads that pop up here every couple of months.

Or you could post it on this thread anyway to get it back on track.

Yeah, but worst ever? Worse than Sqij, the contents of Don't Buy This, and every magazine type-in game ever?

Still, I suppose there is something about great looking games where the gameplay is a turn off that makes them ultimately far more of a disappointment than ones that you can see are downright awful from the outset.

I enjoyed these games, for their time they were superb, not saying everyone has to like them but worst game ever ? Just ridiculous. I never liked the Hobbit or Pokemon games but i can appreciate they are decent games (just not for me) and not the worst ever

whatever DOES win, there'll be 50 games on Cassette 50 & 52 games on the Megadrive's Action 52 which will all be worse than it,

but I'm bailing at this point as I got embroiled in such a debate about nothing last time......

As President of the 'no way is Knight Lore the worst game in the world ever (Didn't the knight lore haters ever play Jack and the beanstalk on the Speccy ?)' fan club....

Imagine the year 1984, some gems on home computers but a lot of crap, cassette covers showing you slaying a dragon, you load the game up and you're an asterisk trying to defeat a capital D ! 'Great' basic games.

You kept looking over at your cousins Atari console and you got quite jealous, then the decent games started appearing on your little old Speccy, Jet Pac (yeah have that Atari owner !), Manic Miner (amazing !) and more. Then something special happened. A game appeared which blew you away, it looked amazing, yeah you might not have a clue what you do and you spend most of your time 'finding new rooms' but either way it just looked like a mini movie !

You loaded up Knight Lore and wow - Looked stunning. Again you just find rooms but damn it looks so good and look, he turns into a werewolf ! It was even okay when everything slowed down in some rooms when there were too many sprites. Plus Knight Lore had power, this was the game you showed to your C64 best mate when he joked about the Speccy, 'hello ? have you got this ? Nope you haven't as the C64 cant run this type of game....' for a few months i had the power over my C64 mate !

Years later do i go back and try to play it for hours on end ? Nope, like a fair few retro games i'll load it up for 5 minutes, get those rose tinted memories and then go back to it in another few months or so.

Again at the time Knight Lore was incredible, looked amazing. Sabre Wulf 'we' all loved, Underwurlde was decent and now this, just amazing. I dont blame Ultimate for quickly releasing Alien 8 as it would have been criminal to just release one filmation game like Knight Lore.

And that m'lud is why Knight Lore is never ever the worst game in the history of the world !

For me, the the opportunity cost of Knight Lore's very existence meant that I didn't get Atic Atac, Cookie, Jet-Pac, Pssst, Sabre Wulf or Tranz-Am for my ninth birthday ANY of which would have given me a lot more fun for me than trying to get to grips with a game that gave me no joy whatsoever.

No other game had that same opportunity cost for me EVER!

That is why I put it down as the worst game ever in that poll.

That and the fact that I didn't think there'd be any merit or debate in an...

At least there's a new addition to the list since then in the form of Ashes Cricket 2013.

Not that I ever got to play it before it was pulled, but it looks hilariously broken from the videos you can find on YouTube.

Silver Surfer for the NES. A trully God awful game that took advantage of my comicbook-centric naivety and left me with one of my first notable experiences of bad gaming. Aimless floating at easy targets and... that was it. It's the most half-arsed design game in living memory. Good soundtrack though.

Yet another re-hash on this old topic, and as usual it's games that people found overrated rather than outright bad that are getting mentioned.

I can just feel the love.....

Worst games ever? WIsh I could remember the name (it was that bad), but it was an old SNES game with the picture of a samurai on the front, and was a sidescrolling piece of trash that sat on the rental shelf at my local video shop for ages. Thought id give it a bash........instantly regret it!

When you're into trying out obscure budget games for the PS2 like I am then you are exposed to all manner of miserable, unplayable sh1te from companies like Midas and it's games like these that I'd class as the 'worst ever'. In terms of glitchiness, bugs and atrocious presentation then many are probably spiritual successors to some of the 8bit horrors.

I remember playing Stock Car Crash...man what a piece of crap. Also see Golden Age of Racing; so easy to crash your car and receive permanent crippling damage while the rest of the pack fly around the tracks at impossible speed in perfect formation without any incident
