Off to Thailand. Any retro gaming shops?

Post by ChipTune » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:02 am

I am off to Thailand next Wednesday, whoop!

I am taking my homebrew enabled PSP with emulators on (for an mp3 and gaming should I need something to make me feel more close to home). I was thinkin of buying a GBA or original GB pocket to take as well, but then thought - maybe there are some market stalls or shops that sell games machines.

Has anyone here been, and had any experience of this? Is it a wealth of dodgy knock offs and multicarts? Would I be able to get a GBA SP with a multicart out there easily?

I intend to review some games while over the so will be using the PSP for this, but it would be nice to also play GBA or GB games on the actually hardware - even if it is called Nintenjo Gaymebuy. :D

Afraid not, but I know of a few good tranny hooker joints. They may be able to hook you up with a couple of Mario/Duckhunt carts, if you show them a good time.

Where in Thaliand?

In Hau Hin there were market stalls with tonnes of GBA carts. Doubt they were "real" but at that price who's arguing.

In Bangkok I saw GBA stuff in the Malls.

It's worth a shop round.

Thailand is an amazing country - have a great time! Wish I was going :(

I'd somehow imagine, they would mainly be bootlegs out there, plenty of 100 in 1 carts I reckon

There are arcades in most every mall. Go to MBK (Mahboonkrong) it has about 10 floors all with different shops and loads of gaming. There is an arcade and LAN cafe on the floor below the top floor.

I think you might have to ask for pirate games behind the counter these days.

doubt that a pirate paradise like Thailand had many legit consoles sold - so probably not a big retro scene. You might find some good multi-carts or the like

Apparently, it's like shooting bullets into the headboard, is doing it with ladyboys, according to a documentary I once saw. ;)

Eh? In the interests of clarity, wouldn't it be a good idea to say why as well? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just found that message a little jarring!

If I remember the post correctly, old chippy tried to be funny but instead just made what read like an incredibly stupid comment relating to teenage girls.

I'm not surprised to see it deleted tbh. (if it was and chip hasnt edited that himself for some unknown reason)
