Im not really excited about the machine but if anyone is intrested, microsofts promise that the xbox 360 would not be able to be taken apart has already been trashed!

When the machine was announced I was keen to get my name on the waiting list.
Then, as the weeks and months went by I realised it had one of the worst launch line-ups since the PS2.
I love picking up new machines on launch, and I have no doubt that the 360 will play host to some stunning games. However, at the moment the only thing that interests me is the live arcade and Geometry Wars 2.

... and just to finish off this little story... it turns out practically everybody got one in the end.

I fixed one once, true story. Proper tech fix too. No one was killed and no houses burned down either.

We used to refloat the solder on the motherboards of RROD original model 360s and could often get a few weeks more life out of these badly designed machines. It's funny reading this thread though as it was written just as the machine was released before the whole RROD debacle started. If only they knew what they were letting themselves in for.

I think I ended up with 5 over the years (red ring replacements and slims)gman72 wrote:... and just to finish off this little story... it turns out practically everybody got one in the end.

What I cannot believe is that my launch day 360 lasted 6 years
Only got changed in the end as I got a spanking new TV and needed the hdmi out on the future versions of the 360.
My original machine did red light in the end, but boy had it been used a lot by that time.

Seems incredible that it was launched nearly a decade ago. The Red Ring debacle clearly didn't harm its long term prospects, although I wonder if an original model will become rare and sought after in years to come?

Re: So who got an XBOX360 then?
My first 360 (day one prezzie from the missus) worked for years, then when I upgraded to an elite it went to my nephew ..... and was BATTERED seeing as he and his brother were teens and couldn't look after a shoe. It was still working when at last it was bootied I believe a year or so ago.
Non of my 360s have failed and the one RRoD one I had to fix was bought broken as a 'can I fix it' challenge. Don't get me wrong, I know there were deffo SEVERE problems for some but mine have been bulletrpoof. I've had:
3x Standard 360s (one for RRoD repair and one for 'modding')
1x Black elite
1x slimline coffee machine looking on (my current 360)
It's the greatest console of all time (so far), it really is.
edit:
It's my hobbit hole gaming grail, I could play the games I have for that machine forever and never buy another game

I had 2 of the originals red ring (replaced under warranty) and another break the disc tray, the slim I replaced it with is still going fine. It's between that and the SNES for my greatest of all time
