Spectrum30 Show in Cambridge, 08th-09th September 2012

Post by Speccyman » Fri Aug 24, 2012 4:14 am

In the August-issue of Retro-Gamer there was an article about the Spectrum30 show in Cambridge. I would like to announce the show also here.

Sinclair Spectrum 30th Anniversary / ZX Microfair 2012
Saturday, 08th September, 10 am – 09th September 05 pm

I am really happy that after 9 years I can again organize a Spectrum-User-Meeting. This time it is very special, it is the Spectrums 30th birthday and we will make a show where it all began: In Cambridge.

What will be there?
Although we were unable to rent the Sinclair building, we will be quite near in the “Helmore Building” at the Ruskin University Campus. The show will be divided into three parts:
Mainroom where you meet all the Spectrum users and can build up your own setup. Here will be also the competitions and the food and beverage area.
Exhibition room for dealers to show their goods, clubs and magazines show their work and private users and inventors can show what they do with the Spectrum.
Workshop Area: We have a 400 seats lecture theatre for presentations, workshops, talks and the coder competition.

We have already a lot of guest-speakers, exhibitions and competitions.

- MJ Hibbet performing „Hey hey 16k“
- Panel talk „Hardware Design“ with Rick Dickinson and Chris Smith
- Panel talk „Games Coding“ with Kevin Toms and Jonathan Cauldwell
- Games Competition: Spec-Tank, 4 Player LAN game
- Kevin Toms: "30 years Since I wrote Football Manager..Writing again..."
- Digital Archeology with Steven Goodwin
- Spectrum & Clones Exhibition in the Exhibition room
- Retro-Dealers offering their products and services in the ZX Microfair

On Sunday there will be ZX Demo and Games Coder competitions.

On our website http://www.spectrum30.org.uk we will publish any news.

How to get there?
The Ruskin university provides a great site how to get there. Please visit:
http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/ ... .html#maps

International visitors should probably use the Stansted airport as there are cheap flights from all over Europe. Guests from oversea will probably have to use the Heathrow airport. From the Stanstead airport there is a train to Cambridge about every hour (Travel 1 hour). From Heathrow airport goes trains even all 30 minutes, but travel is 2 hours. As sooner you book your ticket as better the price:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
From the train station you can walk about 1 mile to the Ruskin university or take the bus. Details are in the first link of the Ruskin university.

Buy Ticket/Contact
We offer tickets and tables. The prices are:
Ticket for the first day: 18,00 GBP
Ticket for 2 days 23,00 GBP
Rent TV: 5,00 GBP (please contact before the show)

Responsible for the ticket sale is the Sintech-UK office. You can book the ticket on our website http://www.spectrum30.org.uk

What now?
First plan your holiday, then book the ticket to the show and think about if you need a table or TV. Then book your flight and/or train, as sooner you book, as cheaper it will be.

I'll be there!

Wake up at 5am tomorrow (at the latest), train from Kidderminster at 6:02am, get to Cambridge just after 10am, hopefully get there for 10:30 for "Hey Hey 16K" ("it made a generation who could code" - too true!)

Enjoy myself immensely for the day!

Train back at 4, 5 or 6pm, depending on how long I can stand up!

Not sure if I'll bring anything, maybe an iPad (mine's the cracked one - oops!) with lots of photos of my collection

:)

it looks to be nice tomorrow (mid 20s apparently) I daresay I will be going to Cambridge tomorrow, so I will probably have a look in, provided I can get a ticket on the door. I think the website says that it will be OK to get a ticket on the door

That Games Coding talk looks interesting

popped in for a few hours, I only saw the Hardware Q&A and the Games Coding Q&A, I'm a software engineer by trade and these techie discussions were very interesting and informative

I had a look around the Microfair and that was nice too

it was nice to have lunch included in the price

all in all an interesting exhibition (from what I saw)

I wonder if anyone recorded the lectures?
