Your playground lies stories

Post by Martits » Thu Aug 16, 2012 8:37 am

Everyone has been lied to about videogames back in school. How about some of your worst stories of getting duped by lying kids.

Here's mine:
When I was in class, a lad told me that his uncle worked in the Nintendo factory and he always brought SNES games home for him. He apparently could get any game he wanted and said he would get me some if I wanted. Any amount I wanted! After an hour of grilling him for details I took his word and was filled with excitement. I went back home and told my brother and we swiftly got to work at listing games from the magazines. This was the most amazing thing in the world as a kid. I brought the list in the next day and waited and waited. After a few weeks of bitter disappointment I finally accepted I wasn't getting the games.

What a horrible lie. Last time I heard, the lad (now a 30 year old man) was in prison. Poetic justice!

There was a kid in our class who had a Nintendo 64 months before it's official release. Unfortunately he wasn't allowed to bring in any of the games to show us, and his camera was broken. Odd that.

Playground lies were a dime a dozen in my shcool. Usually involved an older brother (older bothers and cousins always factored heavily in these fabrications) having every toy from the [insert popular toy line of the day] including things that can only be got in America, that when enquired about when visiting their houses were always conveniently "put away in the attic"

There was also the kids who had seen live action movies of popular toy lines that were never made. One lad claimed his older brother (again) had seen a GiJoe/Action Force movie with the Red Shadows as the bad guys. I think there was even bullsh!t flying around about a Transformers one too...

I knew a kid who lived down the road from me who insisted he had a Giant Unicron toy that his mother brought back from the states. But it was to big to get out of his room of course - and we were not allowed into his house. Convenient. In fact there was always a kid who's sibling or cousin had some toy version of a vehicle or other from a popular cartoon/movie that was never produced due to its vast size or only existed in reduced size or playsets like the Star Destroyer toy from the star wars line.

Later when I was in secondary school there was one lad who was a bit harmless, an overly credulous sort that occasionally got the p!ss ripped out of him. Another kid told him that his father worked for a company that distributed Arcade machines to Hotels/Arcades/Pubs etc and that they always had a few cabinets in the garage so they could play-test them before buying a bunch to distribute to clients. He claimed at the time that there was a Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat machine in his garage and they were waiting for Capcom to deliver the 'tester' for Street Fighter III which was due any day soon. The lad kept up the ruse for about a fortnight before telling him he was ripping the p!ss and asking how could this guy be so gullible.

A friend told me when you score over 100,000 in Way of the Exploding fist, wooden boards fall out of the sky for you to kick and punch... When I got to that score I was very disappointed. (Mind you, for years I somersaulted over the bull rather than punching it...)

 did you go to my school?

There was indeed always a kid who had a Star Destroyer the size of a car or a Death Star toy his uncle got him from America that you can only get over there and is big enough to sleep in.

I think everybody in my class had a different version of the Tomb Raider nude cheat that would only work for them. I was too busy playing Blast Corps to give a f**k.

Not really a video game related lie, but I knew a kid who claimed (amongst other things) that his Granddad worked high up for Toys R Us. He would reel off a list of upcoming toys, particularly TMHT ones, that he was privy to but which obviously never appered. He also told me he could get me the Turtle's Blimp; I waited and waited, and after a couple of weeks I asked him again and he claimed that he'd never promised anything of the sort!

I stopped hanging around with him after that (not just because I didn't get the blimp, but because I wanted to save myself from future BS). My parents were quite glad about it, as the lad's parents were of the Jesus variety who, in hindsight, did try to indoctrinate me a little at times.

I keep seeing him at weddings these days (he's a photographer) and he's turned out nice enough, no longer a BS'er. His younger brother was also on Embarrassing Bodies recently with his censored out, which was surreal.

A few years previous they also knew how to get blood in SNES Mortal Kombat, and how to play as the bosses in Street Fighter 2

In terms of games there was always lies about getting certain Pokemon like Mew and that in various versions.
My friend who at the time I think was jealous of the fact me and my other friend had a PS2 lied by saying he had PS2 games for PS1 stuff like the Sims and that, we said it just wasn't true but he maintained it was even though we were in his house at the time and they were nowhere to be seen.

I remember one lie was that this kid bought in a bullet, so I asked to see it, it turns out it was one of those 3.5mm Jacks for stereos.

There was also this one guy at secondary school that would lie nonstop and the worse thing was he thought we actually believed him, he was really unfit and quite fat so would lie he was in this underground fighting league, any injury he had like say a scratch or something he would blame on knives or whatever from fighting in this league. He had a bite mark on his arm clearly self inflicted and he blamed it on some opponent biting him

I lied that I had a pool table in my house when I was at school, my friend had one which I though was cool, still not sure why I said I did but had to fess up later with some other cr@p. Valuable lesson learnt.

Anyway, just picked up my gold Nintendo World Cart today... but my camera is broke!
