Mac questions and what not

Post by The Hardest of All Freds » Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:49 pm

So I got this here eMac. I am upgrading to 1 gig of RAM and I am running Panther 10.3.9 on it. I would like to upgrade to 10.4 or even 10.5. Does anyone have set up discs or any advice on how to do upgrades? Am I being naive to assume its like whacking a disc in and doing it WIndows style? I have sod all knowledge about Macs.

Assuming your MAC meets to the min requirements you can just insert the disc while on the desktop and run the install process from there.

Which model is it?

Check what it may be able to run here:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/e ... -emac.html

10.4 is the limit on the first couple 10.5 for the others.

It's really easy to do but as with anything like that I would recomend a clean install.

I may have a 10.5 dvd somewhere if you are interested and it supports it. (dvd was the main requirement of 10.5 IIRC)

I have 10.4 but they are disks that came with my intel machines so probably would not work. And my other macs are so old they would not even entertain the thought of osx!

Me again. Right old balls up on my part. Bought a 512mb SDRAM memory stick to find it wasn't compatible. So that has gone back. I also ordered an Airport Express card. Guess what? Wrong one again. After wading through pages and pages at Macrumors and on the Apple site, I have now (I hope) sorted exactly what I need. Before I brave Amazon/eBay/ a skip, anyone got a 512mb memory stick for an eMac up for sale?
