HMV selling pre-owned dvds.

Post by dste » Thu Jun 21, 2012 3:14 pm

Popped into HMV at lunchtime and saw that they now had a pre-owned dvd section. Had a look through and surprisingly every single dvd was only £2, no matter what it was.

They had american films, foreign films, Manga/Anime, comedy all for £2 each. They also have TV boxsets that only a fiver each, copies of Smallville for only a fiver.

Was pleasantly surprised.

Don't know about elsewhere but the That's Entertainment in Newcastle is literally a thirty second walk from HMV's front door.

Now if only HMV could sort out the prices of their pre-owned games.

Fopp - or, at least, the stores under HMV's ownership - have been selling pre-owned DVD's for quite a while now. If Fopp is anything to go by, CD's will follow soon! I welcome that - there's some cracking bargains on these offers that HMV are taking up to be had in Fopp!

My local(ish) store moved all the stuff round again pushing all the blu rays and games into one small area so they could have more room for CD's and DVD's WTF only stupid people pay £17:99 for a dvd anymore

£17.99? If only...

HMV here still sells a fair proportion of single-disc DVDs for £20. Can someone tell them it's not 1998 anymore? :?

Yeah, I saw a single disc DVD that was 2-3 years old and it was £25 :? . Also, Independece Day single-disc DVD for £12 anybody? I actually like that film (unlike most) and was interested in grabbing the DVD but not at that price.

I'll have to see if the local store is doing this pre-owned thing as unlike games, I'm not too anal about the condition of DVD's (as long as they work and aren't too battered) so I'm always up for some cheap bargains. £2 seems about right too since DVD's seem to instantly lose all of their value once bought (even brand-new releases are sometimes hard to shift if you buy, watch and don't like it). When I saw the thread title I expected 'horror' stories of overpriced DVDs

I went into HMV last weekend. They did seem to be selling 'new' DVDs and Blu Rays at more reasonable prices. I got 'Drive' for £9.

The pre-owned DVDs must be them trying to compete with Amazon, Play and Cash Convertors, etc. It makes sense.

There's a Fopp around the corner from HMV in Manchester (up the street with the Tesco on the corner). Didn't know they were anything to do with HMV though...

The HMV in Chester does sell pre owned CDs as well as DVDs + Blu Rays. When i went in someone must have sold them most of there metal / hardcore record collection as there was quite a few obscure semi rare cds that i picked up. Also had a good selection of DVDS some of which i traded in at CEX. Hate to think what there offering trade in wise for them if there selling them that cheap.

Well Magic magpie offer you min 30p a dvd and 10p for a CD. I am almost 100% this is where Thats Entertainment get its stock from. I would think HMV would offer you around the same in trade in. IE F all

It did pop into my mind when browsing about how much they are probably paying customers for them.
