Problems with SNES Display

Post by RetrolixusMcD » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:22 am

Hi All

I thought i'd take a break from reading the latest issue to ask a question....I have a PAL SNES, and it works ok on my Samsung 32" 1080p LCD, however every so often, the screen goes dimmer and dimmer, until it blacks out completly sometimes for only a few seconds, sometimes for a couple of minutes? I am using the nintendo scart lead, which fits the Gamecube, Snes etc, pluggling the R/W/Y straight into the ports on the tv....Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

The Snes video circuit has different specs to the gamecube, so although they are pin compatible there are capacitors in the Gamecube cable (more common than a genuine Snes cable iirc) the signal strength gets altered by the extra circuitry.

You can fix it by bridging the solder points on the capacitors, I did this and it works fine now, and i don't think it adversly impacted using my Gamecube with it

details can be found here http://mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/pal-snes-rgb.htm

^ as above. A Scart cable for the Cube won't work properly with the SNES, and vice versa.

I thought the capacitors were for rgb? He's using composite?
