UEFA Euro 2012

Post by Liamh1982 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:22 pm

What, no thread yet? Let's fix that...

Anyone think Greece should be playing wearing shorts with out-turned pockets?

Mind you, they're probably the only 23 Greeks with any money left!

Some things never change - they're horrible to watch and Samaras is still a donkey.

Really enjoyed the Greece game, excellent start to the Euro's, thought Poland deserved to win the game though, played a nice game of football.

Seems Russia are giving the Czechs a spanking.

On a football level I thought the poland-greece game was dire. Both teams absolutely suck. Thankfully, the red cards and the penalty save added some interest. Overall, crap football but good drama.

Russia looked handy against the czechs. Pavlyuchenko's goal was a beauty. I expect the russians to absolutely batter the poles on this showing.

Greece and Poland indeed looked very poor, but as a proud communist, I was glad to see the Soviet Union show their might against the satellite nation Czech Republic. Still though, I think Deutschland BRD will win the Cup, while England are going to struggle to get out the group.

The first game was a bit boring. And to say the first sending off was a bit dubious is a bit of an understatement. The Ruskys looked good against the Czech's, although the Czech defense looked pretty shoddy all game. A nice start overall, just cant wait for the usual disappointing showing from our guys on Monday.

I would borrow you some Optrex but I used it all up watching him actually... you know, trying.
Have to say, the Ruskies look darned good. If it weren't for that lump Kerzhakov they could have had at least 7!
Dark horses to win the thing?

Is Akinfeev still there number 1?? Still don't know why he hasn't move to a bigger European team, got some excellent stats on Footy Manager.

Nope. They had somebody else in goal.

Akinfeev had a serious injury and was out for eight months. Don't know if he's fully recovered yet. The fact he hasn't moved to a bigger European team is not unusual since virtually the entire Russian squad currently plays in Russia, something not seen since the 'Iron Curtain' was pulled down. There's clearly a lot of money swishing about over there, but I'm glad that some countries can keep their best players at home rather than them all in England, Spain, Italy and Germany.

Not a bad opening match as I didn't expect it to be a draw. Yep it was interesting to see both team to go down to ten men, which also saw Szczesny gave away the penalty. Luckily for the substitute goalkeeper, he saved it from the spot.

As for Russia, they looked very strong against the Czech Republic. Despite some experienced player (including Cech, Baros and Rosicky), the Czech's defending was terrible that saw them got caught out by the Russian's counter attack and they looked fragile at the back. After that great win for Russia, they could be the dark horse for this tournament.

Plus I'm looking forward to Holland vs Denmark, and of course Germany vs Portugal. Otherwise it's widely regarded as the group of death.

Holland v Denmark is like Bayern v Chelsea all over again!
