Well, rain came just before FP1 and FP2 so no one has really shown their cards - but the McLaren looks pretty good :D Was great watching F1 cars again - and the stepped noses didn't really look all that bad tbh.

Good that Schumi managed to put in a good time, but I fear his Mercedes will be in the midfield pack. The McLaren looked strong, but I think that the Red Bull will still be the fastest car. Roll on Sunday. We need an actual race not a Red Bull test drive or how good the safety car is! Fingers crossed.

The Red button stuff on sky is really good. variety of screens to choose from or a 4 way split screen, showing race coverage, driver position and times, plus 2 in cockpit feeds and the ability to select which car cams you want to view during the race. Also like the little info button that lets you pull up all the team and driver bios etc and the section showing live tweets from users on the twitter feed.

Too early to tell what the commentary is going to be like TBH, practice afterall isn't exactly a dynamic environment with much of interest going on. Something I did find irritating today was the main commentator (I forget his name) kept interrupting Anthony Davidson when he was talking about something relevant, interesting or anecdotal with some pointlessly inane comment, as far as I can tell just for the pleasure of hearing his own voice. All of them are going to have some pre-match nerves, what with it being a new channel that's cost lots of money and needing to make it successful in the face of lots of very sceptical F1 fans who loved the Beeb coverage (me included).

So far though, in the round I've been quietly impressed with the various red button features, extras and the HD. Still not sure they've got the commentary team right, never been much of a fan of programs with professional commentators rather than commentators who do it because of a genuine interest or involvement in the sport. Will give it a couple of full race weekends to see if they pick up but so far the lead commentator/anchor and that bird with the deep voice they've got doing the behind the scenes/pit stuff just look out of their depth, a bit clueless and plastic.

Practice didn't reveal much at all because of the changing weather conditions and the fact that the top teams still won't be wanting to show their full hand. Early indicators though show unexpected pace from Mercedes, and a Ferrari with serious balance issues. Still think McLaren and RedBull were both deliberately pulling their punches. Qualifying in the morning will tell a better tale.

Its back baby!!!!!!

I'm with Virgin - and although Sky have been 'kind' enough to allow Virgin to have the F1 Channel (in SD only), there are NO red Button options.

I'm a bit pi55y about it really. I'm paying the same/more than a Sky subscriber to Virgin who in turn have to pay that to sky - so why don't we get what we are paying for    Stupid Sky A-Holes.

The guy with lead commentary is Crofty - who has been the voice of F1 on the radio for the Beeb for years. He's been talked about for years - with fans wanting the beeb to get him to replace other commentators. Now Sky have nabbed him..... only time will tell!

Qualifying in a few hours - - - - must get some sleep......

Oh bugger - FP3 before that

Well its an interesting grid for the race in the morning. Both McLarens dominant, with Red Bull and Ferrari well back in the field and Webber outqualifying a Vettell that hasn't looked comfortable with the car all weekend. With the prospect of interference from the Weather and lots of very competitive drivers effectively out of their expected positions and with a grid full of motors to pass, I think its shaping up for a really interesting race.
Lets hope Button and Hamilton don't get too carried away with themselves and do anything silly at the start.

You forgot Schumacker!! He's going to make up 10 places at the start ;) even though he's fourth ;)

It was a really great qualifying session - even if it was still bed time!

Great to see the McLarens at the front (although I'd prefer the other way around).
Grosjean - now that was a shock! He was awful in his 1st visit to the sport in 2009 and I just assumed they wanted any old French dude in an F1 car!!! But 3rd  Great stuff.
Schumi/Rosberg look good (I'd rather Schumi back in 7th and Rosberg in 4th) - but with Renaul/Lotus and other teams protesting the legality of the F-Duct, whatever happens in the race could be undone if it is illegal......
Webber/Vettel - LOL .. that interview with Vettel was brilliant! He made out that it was 'usual' to be qualifying back there in 6th and his bottom lip was already expanding  Webber ahead of him too
8th/9th/10th - Maldo/Hulk/Ricccciardiodidodiodo - Great effort by these guys and nice to see williams back from the back!

Other naff ones:

Ferrari                       xPi
You can just imagine what THE BOSS was saying on the phone back in Italy! Alonso made a school boy error and got all sh*tty with the dude trying to help him - and was well off the pace anyway. Massa was actually worse than he was last year!! I predict his removal from the team by mid-season. He is WELL past his best.

Paul Di Resta - Didn't rate him last year as a rookie even though everyone else did. Today he was just a bit sh*t. The Hulk was bound to get the better of him as he was awesome when he was racing in F1 before. Also Di Resta is more boring than all the drivers from Finland put together

Talking of Finland - Kimi is back..........and he's at the back! Another driver I've never really liked. Seeing him fail today did make me chuckle - and it is going to be a great re-learning chance getting from 18th to the gravel trap at some point. He hasn't changed either - refused to drive in the rain  and told the team to change the steering rack as he didn't like the old one (nothing wrong with it)

HRT - just as crap as last year. They need a rule that says 'No pre-season testing - team will not be entered'. Both of the HRT's will miss the race (for the second year in a row) due to being slower than a disability scooter.

Biggest let down for me........... Caterham. I really hoped to see them move upto the midfield - but they are just NOT.

Really really looking forward to the race though....

Go Button.

^ I think Kimi had another one of his "nights out"!

Massa's never been the same since the accident - he's lost his balls.

If there's even a speck of rain tomorrow, Jenson will walk it.

I hate to say it, but loyalty and pity are what's keeping Massa in that Ferrari. That won't last...

If I was Domenicalli, I would just pretend my phone was broken or something.

And it's go go go!

Six F1 champions on the grid this year :D , McLaren with seemingly decent car at start of season SHOCKER  , Ferrari having the ugliest thing in F1 since Barrichello  and Schuey in a car that might be a bit dodgy by the rules... just for a change!

Schuey out early, Button doing well and leading the race so far although has a wheel vibration in this middle stint, Hamilton second and was only lapping at the same pace as the vastly overrated energy drink pedaler from Germany  back in sixth, the fugly Ferrari's not as bad with race pace as it was during qualifying, Raikkonen's race engineer having to explain blue flags weren't for him after he threw a hissy fit

EDIT:

* 17 laps to go - Vettel has lucked right in due to the safety car being deployed so soon after both McLarens pitted (on same lap) allowing him to take second  , Red Bull car reputed to be more fuel efficient than the McLaren which may now give it the edge, new rule allowing lapped cars to un-lap themselves under safety car conditions
* 11 laps to go - Hamilton fastest driver on circuit and now only 0.6s behind Vettel
* 10 laps to go - good battle between Alonso & Maldonado, Massa out
* 5 laps to go - Vettel ups pace, Webber close behind Hamilton
* Big shunt for Maldonado
* BUTTON WINS! :D , Vettel lucky in second, Hamilton third... meaning no wonky raised finger on show all race weekend thank f*ck!

Well, a fantastic result for Button :D :D
If only that safety car hadn't happened at that moment!!! Oh how a bit of bad luck can gift someone..... Vettel  He made out in the interview that he would have had Hamilton anyway :? He must have been dazed by the sun or something! It was a McLaren 1 - 2 that was blown by pure chance.

Hamilton IS a bad loser in public. His miserable face and the lack of effort on the podium. Yeah he is going to be annoyed at not turning his Pole lap into a win and for coming in behind Vettel - but ffs man show some respect for your team mate that trounced you

Want to write lots more but I need to go to bed now
