Paul, have you seen Prometheus? Its not clear how a ship ends up on LV426, but it is clear there may be other ships. As with most movies it ends open to a sequel which may answer that, but that's hardly a spoiler since Ridley Scott has openly stated in interviews that Alien is at least 2 movies removed from this one (though whether we'll get those movies isn't yet known).

Mrs Ant obviously isnt and Alien fanatic then! LV426 is not the planet in this film :D
Spoilers(ish)
That's one theory (and probably the one I'd go for). Alternatively, what if he was a rebel? We know the goo needs another lifeform's biomatter to transform, so what if he'd been the human creator and in a defensive manouvre turned the goo on himself in order to wipe out his colleagues and prevent an Earth attack from happening? David hints at this with the suggestion 'How would you feel if your creator told you that?' when told we'd created him 'because we could'. Its possible the Prometheans simply looked upon Humans as an experiment that has ended so were ready to eliminate us, hence the weapon stockpiles.

I don't think there's much reference to LV426 in the film. Is it ever spoken? I saw it on a display once and that's all I remember. You need to be reasonably familiar with Aliens to get that reference though, a casual watch or two isn't going to stick that detail in most people's heads.

One thing puzzles me (without being spoilerific). Who was the bloke at the start and why did he do what he did. I've some ideas, but I'm not sure my theories match the movie (which can be said of several sections)
Reading around alot of people haven't noticed the planet thing. Im blaming it on a need for a coke and some maltesers :D

Theres still alot to be explained away from the movie and i think once Ridley Scotts done with Blade Runner 2 he will come back to this, hopefully. I think it'll be two movies though as theres so much potential to go into.

The beginning is implied that it's Earth, though it can just as easily be an planet that they are seeding with life (Ridley said it's not necessarily Earth).

There is probably going to be an extended version that's about 2h 20Mins (Ridley said this in an interview I watched a few days ago), though he wasn't certain and was mentioning putting stuff into the menus.

He's also said he really wants to do a Prometheus 2.

The Prometheus planet is LV-233 and the moon in Alien is LV-426

Multiple ships are mentioned by David at the end of the film.

The Derelict in Alien has nothing to do with Prometheus (unless that's changed in Prometheus 2). It's just another ship.

The way I see it, the Engineers go to a planet and seed it with life. That's what they specialise in; manipulating DNA/genetic engineering. They also create hostile life (the squid thing and snake thing (Hammerpede). I guess they came across the Alien (obviously interested in it and it's genetic potential) and were wiped out on LV-233 (we saw evidence of a chestburster from an Engineer). I don't know why they decided to wipe out Earth (if that's indeed their plan; it seemed like a lot of assumptions were made about that, though the live one was very aggressive.).

I think it was aggresive as it was terrified...if you sneezed into a hanky at work, went home for a kip, and were then woken up by the snot having gained sentience and followed you home to ask you why you created it, you'd be terrified and trying to destroy it as well.

Okay, I went yesterday to the 3.20pm showing!

I really liked most of the film - the visuals were stunning, the 3D worked well (the layering effects were really done well), decent enough characters and developed the Alien mythology well enough for me.

There were a few plot leaps of faith and presumptions - maybe one too many. Though it would be difficult to cram the creation of mankind story into a 2hour sci fi film!

I consider it an Alien film, in the same way I consider Enterprise series to be part of Star Trek.

Sequel thoughts - don't know. Was the alien at the end the first alien? Or are there more elsewhere? How would it get off the planet? Maybe Shaw and David end up on LV426 in the next film?

Either way, I found it very enjoyable and good escapism. Not a classic, but good enough.

Plus it had some nice eye candy too!

Things that did puzzle me - charlie has gone half way round the universe to find his life's work, gets there and seems a bit bored and decides to get p**sed on wine. Why? He didn't seem at all excited by any of the Engineer stuff.

Then David spikes his drink with the alien dna stuff - why? There didn't seem to be much made of the effects of the dna on him, and then he was killed!

What was the green emerald in the tomb?

What was the statue of the Alien in the tomb?

[Posts edited for SPOILER colouring]

greenberet79 wrote:Was the alien at the end the first alien? Or are there more elsewhere?

The Aliens are the result of the goo and an Engineer DNA after a generation, so you'd expect a similar creature any time they meet.

We know Humans share the same DNA as Engineers, hence impregnating Shaw gave a creature that would have the same effect. It wouldn't matter if it starts as a Human or Engineer, as long as the first gen creature gets to do its face hugging thing you get an Alien.

With that, its possible there's loads of Aliens around, or at least enough material to generate them from Engineers well in advance of Humans turning up.

greenberet79 wrote:Then David spikes his drink with the alien dna stuff - why?

Why not? Maybe he was ordered to, maybe it was just his own experiment to see its impact. Either way, its a fair bet someone wanted to know if it would make him stronger or weaker - if its the former, hey presto! no more weak old man.
