Handheld Gaming Magazine?

Post by Rockford » Wed Nov 09, 2011 12:25 pm

I'm suprised that Imagine or Future have yet to release
a magazine dedictated to handheld (or portable, or pocket if you prefer) gaming.

I'm sure there would be interest in this.
Consoles included could be:

Nintendo DS (all versions)
Sony Vita
Apple iphone/ipod/ipad
Sony PSP
Android devices
Other mobile phone games (Nokia etc..)
Retro section (gameboys etc..)

What say you all?

We did briefly get a PSP mag, but it quickly went digital. That sort of makes sense. Except I stopped buying it. Which isn't good for a mag that relies on sales.

Wasn't there a mag called Go! for a while?

Yeah, but that was a freebie with CVG.

I was sure it was a standalone mage at first, before it was a CVG insert but I could be (and most likely am) wrong.

There's a dedicated website called http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk, which just does handheld. It's pretty good.

I cant see it working, i love iOS gaming but have no interest in the DS, PSP or any other handhelds so all those pages would be a complete waste for me.

Websites do a great job at handheld gaming reviews/previews and other stuff. Back in the early 90's i bought a Gameboy mag but i dont think that lasted too well.

But do people have multiple handhelds ? Just think it would be a huge risk to combine most of them in one mag

I've got a PSP and a DS, but if we're being brutal here, I only use the PSP for emulation (and occassional OutRun 2006 and Super Stardust Portable), and the DS only gets used for the two Sonic Rush games and the occassional bit of Castlevania.

Dedicated PSP mags back in the day did'nt seem to last too long, got good few copies of Pure, few misc copies of Go>Play, but with printed media struggling as is, really could'nt see anything being 'green lit' in this day and age-Move seems to be heading towards online and apps.
