Anyone bought the 'Edge presents FILE' special yet?

Post by GetDexter » Fri Nov 10, 2006 12:08 pm

Bought it today from WH Smiths (got loads of 'Spend £20 get £5 on your clubcard' vouchers so been having a BIG spending spree in there at mo).

It's basically (to quote cover) 'The best features, reviews, interviews and more from the first 12 issues of Edge - 1993 to 1994).

I heartily recommend this tome. Great articles - check out the ancient news items on the launch of the Atari Jaguar, for instance. It's £8 but, IMHO, worth it if, like me, you have got a bit bored of buying Edge on a regular basis only to realise there is a good third of the magazine you never read because it doesn't interest you. These type of 'compilations' collect together all the best stuff and let you sell off all those Edge's that they appeared in in the first place!
As requested by the Tw@t himself - his account was Hijacked and has had a change of password.

Sorry Dexter!

I was thinking "HOW MUCH?!" when I read your email, but apparently it has 260 pages, so that's not too shabby, I guess.

A fraction of the price of the GamesTM Retro Anthology...

I found some old WH SMiths vouchers from a couple of christmases ago yesterday. I know what they'll be spent on now :D

No doubt it won't reach up here until next week.

That fraction being "2/3rds"

I've got it too, and it's good. The review of Doom is particularly entertaining.

There's another one coming out in January.

yeah noticed the price of that other anthology, I bought the first one and I want the new one, but not paying that much for it, £13, hell no.

Considering it's 260 pages on decent paper without ads, £8 is more than fair to me.

Pricey but fun. And yes, cheaper than some.

I bought it on 10% off day, having already splurged my clubcard points on something the other week.

80p, all for me

Mmmmm. Is this the magazine where Future cannot access the original DTP files used to produce the original mags so have resorted to scanning magazine pages to reproduce?

Is that true? I had a quick flick through out of curiosity (I still have all my EDGE mags), and the print quality did seem to be rather low.

It wouldn't surprise me. They certainly look that way. Edge is much worse than I remember it being if this is the 'best of'. I only picked it up because I missed the first few issues.

Apparently, so I read on both the ZZAP!64 and YakYak forums, Future couldn't access the original Quark files, so scanned the first years issues...
