In Da 80's Gaming Pentathlon - ZX Spectrum game vote

Post by witchfinder » Thu Apr 28, 2011 8:41 am

I will be running a competition at the In Da 80's event at the Lass O'Gowrie in July. It will be a 5-game high score tournament with prizes for the top scorer on each individual game as well as a 'grand champion' prize for the best performance across all five - ranking will be done on the same percentage method I used for HISCORE.

All of the systems involved will be 80's classics. There will be two arcade games (most likely Donkey Kong and Bombjack) and three 8-bit systems running a game each.

Rather than go for the obvious 'killer app' for each machine we've decided to open a vote up for a generally more obscure title that we think is excellent.

This thread is for the ZX Spectrum and the choice of games is as follows:
(click on the game name for a review on the RG site)

3D Deathchase - OK, this one is a 'killer app' but it fits the format of the competition perfectly!

Cobra - run and gun capers from the late Joffa Smith, based on a not-so-great Stallone movie.

Cookie - chaotic cake-making abounds in this early Ultimate offering.

Wheelie - a surreal driving/platformer hybrid

The vote is open to all regardless of whether you're attending the event and discussion is welcomed. Final decision lies with me of course but I'd only deviate from the preferred option to ensure variety in the overall selection of games.

I voted for Cobra. Although I think Deathchase is a more natural high score game, Cobra is just too much fun. Now where did I leave that machine gun, time to cure some disease

I absolutely LOVE Cobra, but I'm terrible at it. Deathchase is awesome but it's kinda been done to death. I've plumped for Cookie.

By the way, brilliant choices of games for all machines Matt, I like the way you've picked some really good score attack games, but not necessarily gone for the obvious each time. :D

I've gone for Cobra, it would have been Deathchase but I think some games can drag on for a while.

I've gone for Cobra too. To keep with the Stallone theme. I love it.

I had another go on Cobra last night. I love that game so much, but I am absolutely terrible at it. I so wish this was AV so I could have Deathchase as my 2nd preference when Cookie gets knocked out.
