Which interests and hobbies have you lost interest in?

Post by TheBoingoBandit » Sat Aug 07, 2010 6:10 pm

Have you ever had any interests or hobbies that you used to follow that you no longer are interested in? These can be while you were a child or adult.

Mine are...

Comics - Although I was mainly into British comics rather than American, I used to spend a lot of time collecting and reading comics. I used to buy magazines about comics, go to comic fairs and borrow graphic novels from the library.
However, I was in Forbidden Planet one day and wanted the latest Iron Man comic. I saw the price of it, felt it was too high and almost immediantly asked myself is value of enjoyment worth the cover price?
From there on I started to lose my interest in comics and bought and read less and less until now where I barely care about it at all and have not bought one in many years. (Although recently I did buy a couple of books on the history of British comics in bargain book shops.)

Wrestling - I used to watch World of Sport, then WCW on ITV on Saturday afternoons ans finally WWF/E when I got Sky. I was very passionate about wrestling. I watched pretty much every WWE, WCW and ECW show on satellite (including all the pay per views), bought loads of magazines, went on wrestling news sites and visited a wrestling forum every day. I also attended nearly every major London show and visited shows in Manchester and Birmingham too. I went to many smaller British shows around the country as well. My interest started to wane about 2000 and really went downhill in 2001 when the invasion angle flopped. Once I got rid of Sky a couple of years ago and WWE started to be aimed at children again, I became really bored of it. Now despite having loads of vids and DVDs, I barely watch wrestling anymore. Although I do keep somewhat up to date via the net and go to the odd show, I'm more into MMA at the moment.

Video games - Although I used to love my Spectrum, was mad about my NES and Master System and loved my PS1, after a couple of years owning the PS1 I started to lose interest in video games. While I intended to buy a PS2, I never did and have not bought a console since. While I'll get the PS1 out for a bash every so often and am enjoying Tetris on my new phone, I am no longer an avid gamer. I think this may be because I feel each generation of game is often just better graphics and sound rather than something completely original.

Another BIG interest of mine is technology, which I have HAD in since the early nineties. Although I have not lost my level of interest in it, it does vary all the time.

I guess I have lost interest in playing the guitar recently. Used to play in quiet a few different bands, but since working more I have dropped all that and only play it when I feel like it and for my own enjoyment.

My R/C's- Costs are just to high for me atm
Horror Movie Collecting/making- other things took over.
PC gaming- just cant afford the cost of keeping up.
Model collecting- Parents fault for packing away and damaging most of my models, gave up on the and lost intrest.
Mountain biking- cost of keeping a decent rig is high and I just dont have the mobility to do a decent ride anymore.
Skateboarding- mostly because im just really really sh1t at it.
Guitar- Never really was taught, got messed around so much I just sold it in the end.

Im starting to lose intrest in retro games a bit now, I dont play half of what I have and some of the games I like are just plain exspensive these days.

Although I still watch wrestling regularly, I'm much less enthusiastic about it. Like TheBoingoBandit said, it's mostly aimed at children and now, they even interrupt matches when a wrestler is bleeding... There is still at least one storyline that still keeps me interested (Bret Hart's return, now the "Nexus" angle, etc...) but most of the time, I skip the boring parts which leaves about 20 minutes to watch...

I also gave up playing the guitar. I was never really good at it, but someday, when I have more time, I'll try to pick it up again. I did move it from my parent's to my flat, but gaming takes up most of my free time.

But in the meantime, I did get back into mangas and animes...

No interest what so ever.Used to be a pretty avid movie fan, that seems to have died a death on me at the moment.New technology-At 1 time, i`d be THE 1st to buy any console or gadget-These days? Just more than welcome to sit back, watch others take the risks.Must be getting old i guess.

Seems like almost all of my hobbies/interests have stayed with me over the years - even the ones from my earliest years, such as dinosaurs and Beanos.

The only thing I'm not MASSIVELY into anymore is monster trucks - used to rent out tapes from the video shop full of monster truck footage, my dad would tape the late night stuff for me, I had a few toys (Grave Digger being my favourite), a ton of posters, and even went to a monster truck show at Aintree Race Course for my 11th birthday. Don't know what happened, but somehow the monster truck love just fizzled out.

Bugger, after writing that I'm thinking of heading to YouTube... The process begins once more
My comics blog (mostly lesser-known UK stuff from the 80s and 90s)

Guitar - Too fiddly and annoying
Bass - Too thick and boring
Cooking - Too much fuss for food that doesn't taste as good as ready made crap
Socialising - Too many jack-asses to bother going out
Gaming - Nothing exciting

So, pretty much everything

A lot of stuff. Oddly, I've really enjoyed gaming over the last year or so, prior to that I had this rather depressing, apathetic hiatus, despite still being interested in the subject of gaming.

So want to get back into the art and writing, with the art I started painting some really decent stuff circa 2004/5, started getting some contacts who could've helped me out but I was too cynical/shy/self-loathing to actually get around to calling them, plus I used to do club flyers roundabout 2001/2002, kind of just left it to decay and I'm pretty p!ssed off with myself about it.

Main problem is my loss of interest in music. I must have at least 4,500 CDs, I've been massively obsessed with discovering new (and old) music since I was 9 but the last couple of years have been pretty barren, too much work and girlfriend troubles seem to have left all that in the past (hopefully only temporarily). Gah, I used to be obsessed with all things funk and jazz, now I couldn't give a funk. I don't half miss that drive, that urge to keep on seeking.
