I often see Dennis Taylor in my old local The Red Lion in Marford when im back home. Hes got a well nice house in Llay unfortunatley its right next door to a bloody great big pig farm. Sort of claim to fame but i think that pig farm also had one of the last recorded Anthrax outbreaks in farm animals in the UK a few years back. They burn't all the carcasses on the farm and you could smell burnt pig for miles around. Didn't touch bacon for a year after that.Liamh1982 wrote:Got some more:

Re: Famous People from your Home Town
Quite a few according to old Wikipedia, so I've picked out the most interestings ones. There's also a few connected to the town by virtue of having attended the private schools or through sport, such as Alistair Cook (sat next to him at my cousin's birthday meal last year and had no idea who he was), Paddy Ashdown and Al Murray, but they're not from Bedford so I don't think they should count. Anyway, here goes:
- John Bunyan (pilgrim who did some hard time)
- Harold Abrahams (1924 Olympic 100 metres champion)
- Ronnie Barker (not Ronnie Corbett)
- Matt Berry (Todd Rivers/Sanchez in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace)
- Apsley Cherry-Garrard (Antarctic explorer)
- Calum Davenport (footballer)
- Kelvin Davis (elbow-wielding footballer)
- Gail Emms (badminton)
- Tim Foster (Olympic gold medallist rower)
- Sir William Harpur (former Lord Mayor of London)
- Andy Johnson (footballer)
- Matt Skelton (boxer)
- Charles Wells (brewer)
and last but by no means least...
- Carol Vorderman (uber-milf and Rear of the Year)

Also, I need to put my two-pennies worth into this Rear of the Year debate, AKA 'Pippa Middleton media frenzy': Middleton once had a great rear from a certain camera angle, disguising the fact that due to her frail frame she doesn't actually have an arse. That one at the wedding was an optical illusion. Vorderman, on the other hand, has a great arse from any and every angle. That's why she won.
Thank you.

Corinne Bailey Rae is one of my next door neighbours if i count Leeds (sure there are other famous types from here), my place of birth is Ashbourne, dont think anyone famous came from there as its soo small, but when i lived there Tosh from the Bill had moved there and i frequently saw him stagger around drunk, he even fell over in front of me drunk at 10 am sunday morning in the paper shop.
Roy Wood (wish it could be xmas everyday bloke) lives a couple of miles from there and i gave him some change in the pub once

I can't even remember the name of the place, a little fairly scary pub..........put it this way if I played Foo Fighters they were screaming for dance, when I played the Chemical Brothers they wanted Kings Of Leon. Tough crowd.
In the end I dug out the old Specials / Beat / Madness 7" singles and mashed it into some drum n bass and they loved it. Although everyone was pissed by then. Bohemian Rhapsody to finish, long enough to leave playing from the laptop while I got the decks packed-up for a swift exit!
Funnily enough, Bohemian Rhapsody had people up on chairs, tables, arms in the air, all singing along.....followed by the biggest round of applause I've ever had! Four people took my number for future bookings!
You're only ever as good as your last tune.
