Reading that review of the rooms is shocking. If the service is that bad why are we assuming that the service for the conferance halls is any better?
No need to assume, The venue is used regularly for computer fairs and various other events and it is always held in high esteem. Even when they are putting entertainment on it appears that the Norbreck is great. Its just its shat at housekeeping it would appear
As we have said, we are not recommending people stay there and tbh, the are almost full up for that weekend anyway. Norbreck castle is one of the busiest hotels in Blackpool and despite the awful reviews it still seems to be full most weekends. To be fair to them, a lot of the reviews are about it being closed by health and safety, but this was due to an outbreak of a virus and nothing to do with their food or hygeine (as confirmed in the H&SE report).

The exhibition hall, facilities and conference staff are excellent and should not be compared with the hotel. The Norcalympia Exhibition Centre is certainly the best in Blackpool and one of the best in the North West. It also provides 800 free car parking spaces (about 8 times more than any of the other venues we looked at).

The website will be live early next week and we will put some details about hotels on there. But just to reiterate - we are looking into other hotels and would advise people give it a week before they start worrying about where to stay.

In the meantime, if people are interested in a group hotel booking then please leave your names in this thread along with which days you are wanting to stay and whether you would be willing to share a twin room.

I'll be going, probably for the whole thing, and definitely up for a twin room (if Dam's going, all the better!).

I'm gonna second (or third, or fourth, whatever) it is that SirClive has said about the Norbreck. When I lived in Blackpool, I went to a lot of computer fairs and it's an excellent venue.

The Norbreck has changed ownership quite a lot of times over the last few years, and each time, the accommodation quality has sometimes been suspect, but the conferencing & events quality has always been good. It's an excellent size and I'm really looking forward to going to Blackpool and hope the event as is big as we all want it to be (big as in, a lot of people attending)

Will be doing the same as Rewind - travelling up Friday, staying three nights and going home Monday. Should also have a couple of friends with me.

I'm gonna see if I can crash with at a mate's house. I'll probably go up the night before (Friday) and spend a night out with my mates then pop over on the Saturday morning (once recovered)

Retro, break down the journey by train..

Singles from Cambridge to Birmingham New Street, BNS to Preston then Preston to Blackpool. you may find its alot cheaper especially the further in advance you know you have to travel

and then the same way back. You may be tied to train times but is very do able. Might even be worth checking out Cambs to London and then London Preston as some times you can get steals... Done Preston to London and back for 15 quid before now!

Anyhoo worth shopping about!
