baby names wanted (poss retro game ones)

Post by mainvein » Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:25 am

Hi,
Me and the missus will be bringing a little boy into the world in a months time and are struggling with names, so i thought i would put a post on here to see what other people can suggest, would be great esp if can get a random name in there of a great gaming character too, i can then get back to the wife with some new ideas.

Quite like (henhouse) Harry for a middle name, or Alex (kidd) or Monty, not too sure about Dante, Nero or Chubby Gristle though :D

my daughter is set on giving him the name Clippers too (but that wont be the final decision)

so give us your ideas

Congrats first of all.

I would just go for a traditional english name which means something to the both of you. I wouldnt go for one of these names where normal people think theyre some celebrity and so choose some weird name ! If I look back to my school years i knew no one called 'Kate-Lynn', 'Kylie', 'Blossom' , 'Cherry' etc

My vote goes for a traditional old english name !

So how about 'Wally' ?

Classic retro game name, why not William or "Willy" for short? When you mention retro games people seem to think of JSW all the time!

Try and tie in with traditional names though. Although Spawn may grow to pick up the affection for retro games calling him Sonic would be a red rag. There are plenty of good names pop up, Dan (Dare), Percy (The Potty Pigeon) and if there's Italian blood even Mario wouldn't be too bad.

Yeah it might be a 'cute' name when hes some cute little dribbling baby but think of the bigger picture. How many Percy's did you ever know who didnt have their head flushed down the toilet all the time at school ?!

Spider! Best character in Micro Machines. Also one of the many names I nominated for my brothers forthcoming addition to the world. He wasnt keen. But being a complete nerd, he did sort of settle on Jean-Luc :D

Depends on wealth with that name, I saw Harry (though I did know a kid called Arry, obviously an attempt to commonise it more) and Monty so assuming Eton school potential. In which case Montgomery Percival sounds feasible and would fit.

Good point but huge gamble. A kid named Montgomery Percival HAS to go to Eton, if he drops out and starts working at a supermarket instead he'll have a life of hell with that name

loving these names Duke is a quality one!

def not into the celebrity names, i saw a kid the other week in leeds market playing with the cash register on a stall, then i heard in a full on yorkshire accent "SHAKIRA!! get away from that!" Think that was the best celeb/chav inappropriate name i've heard yet. Apologies to anyone on here who has called their kid Shakira too

my missus suggested mario as a middle name but i had to say no as my brother called his hamster that.

But as my last name is Smith the kid needs a memorable first name

other ones i thought may not work:
Spycat
Warrior
Ax
Johnny 5

(thats the whole problem, i can only think of silly names)
