The thing with Australia is that although there's plenty of stuff to see, it's so frickin big that you can easily lose days just travelling from one tourist attraction to the next.

Mind you, if you were keen you could go on a road trip up the coast to Byron Bay. It's a popular tourist/backpacker destination. There's nothing particularly spectacular there in terms of sightseeing, though it is quite a scenic location (most eastern point of Aus). But the main thing is that its popularity has given it a bit of a party vibe with lots of festivals and drinking and people getting laid and all that. The fact that it's so popular also means there are a range of tourist activities - whale watching, white water kayaking... the kind of things that you can do in the day and then go party at night. Plus on the road trip itself you'd pass through some nice coastal towns.

its too bad Byron Bay is sooooooooo far away though. Its something stupid like 20 hours in the car right?

Nah, it's only about a 9 or 10 hour drive... it's a bit under 800km.
