Video Game Pub Quiz!

Post by Elaine » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:53 pm

There will be a video game pub quiz at a pub in central London in December... hopefully the first in a long series! With game-themed prizes of course :D

I'll post more details later - unless it's considered spam (is it?) because it won't be on retro games only

edit --> Ok, now we have a date...

The first quiz will be on Sunday the 11th of January (at 7 pm)
at the the Prince of Wales Feathers pub in London, close to Warren Street station.

And there'll be questions on retro games... because I'm old

This is the Facebook page with all the details:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Lond ... 99?fref=ts

I hope to see some of you there! :D

(I know the "events" topic would be a better place to post this, but I can't seem to post there... I asked markopoloman and he told me to post it here and it'll be moved later)

Moved - MPM :)

Did anyone get along to Geek 2015 in Margate? I went with a couple of friends and our 8yo kids - was a great day. They had a pretty good amount of retro consoles up and running to play on, mixed in nicely with some newer games (and the ubiquitous Minecraft tournaments). It was great to see the kids really enjoying some of the retro classics - in particular they enjoyed Street Fighter II (SNES) and Sunset Riders (MD). There were some Minecraft youtubers there, and my son was chuffed to play in a Hunger Games tournament with one of them.

My personal highlights;
1) They had a woody Atari 2600 running Track & Field with official (dual button) controllers. Really good fun!
2) BC Kid 3 on the Turbo Grafx. I'd never played this before, so I managed to hog the console for a good 15 minutes and give it a whirl. Fun game.
3) Taiko: Drum Master on PS2. This was brilliant - I was a fan of Donkey Konga, but hadn't played this before. Excellent game.
4) Phoenix on the 2600 - really fun
5) Poncho, a new (retro-esque) game that is due out this summer across all platforms.

There was a nice number of traders there too, selling merchandise and a decent range of games.

The only downsides
1) No arcade machines
2) No home computers (i.e. Spectrum/C64). Would have been nice to see something, maybe the Vega?

All in all, a good day out. I believe it's moving to bigger premises next year (Dreamland). Maybe some RG coverage next year?

They are renovating it at the minute, it's going to be a heritage theme park. At the moment it looks pretty desolate, but they've got big plans and it's supposed to be opening this summer. When I passed it yesterday the Scenic Railway was being rebuilt, looked like something out of Theme Park.

The Revival Retro Show Facebook says the 2015 dates will be announced soon, but then UKVAC announced the REVIVAL Winter Warmer 2015 is 28-29 Nov in Wolves.

So are they the same thing? And when can we buy tickets! :D

How about a game screenshot quiz? Amiga, DOS, Megadrive and Commodore 64.

Hi guys,

The Gaming Gallery is a small monthly(ish) event held in Peterborough which we have ran for the past few months, so far pretty successfully :)

We have about a couple of dozen consoles running, an arcade cabinet, projector, tournaments with prizes, a nicely stocked bar provided by a local craft ale brewery and food!

So far we have been running it as a local event sort of thing, friday nights 1730-2330.

The tournament this time around is Mortal Kombat themed including the very latest MKX on XbOne. with some other on the spot tournaments which will be held randomly during the evening too.

http://www.thegaminggallery.co.uk
https://www.facebook.com/thegaminggallery

So get yourselves down for a fun evening.

Entry is £3 and the address is
The Gallery, 39 Towler Street, Peterborough, PE1 2TX

Hope to see some of you there.
