Stand and Deliver - Adam & the Ants. It went straight in at No.1, which was very rare at the time.

Technically i've never bought a single.

Un-technically I asked for that awful Orville record when I was very very young. Allegedly.

Listen to it! Best song they ever did, besides Hands Up Hands Up.

Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall were my first two. Not bad for an 8 year old.

The Blockheads single had bubbles in the vinyl, but my mum wouldn't return it as the B side was 'There Ain't Half Some Clever B@stards'.

Still probably the weirdest opening to a number one single ever. Adam Ant rules.

i bought the cassette single of "O Superman" by Laurie Anderson from the local newsagents. Still a fantastically odd song after all these years.

I cannot remember what cassette single I first bought, but the first CD single was Original Prankster by The Offspring.

I didn't buy many singles when I was younger, I usually just bought the whole album.
