Retro Gaming inspired bands

Post by thedirtyshame » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:06 am

Is there anyone out there who is in a band, and takes a lot of their sound/music influences from synthesizers, retro videogaming music, etc? I am highly interested as I am studying Commercial Music and am looking for management opportunities. :P Based in the UK only, please.

I am looking for bands/labels/genres similar to:

Makke
C64 Audio (http://www.c64audio.com)
Kidd Video (http://www.myspace.com/kiddvideo)
Electric Six
Prodigy
80s synth-pop
Electro

Thanking you.

Try Vitalic - OK Cowboy and Duo 505 - Late. Tell me if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.

Not Uk but theres an American band Called Horse The Band. I think they have lots of Nintendo samples in the songs, also most people that go to there gigs have the Nintendo hand glove controller. I've heard alot of people going on about them, might be worth having a look at.

The Vitalic album is excellent stuff for anyone who likes driving electronica. Poney Part 1's build-up is amazing, and My Friend Dario is also a fantastic track.

Megadriver (don't know where their from)

www.megadriver.com.br

They do a style/genre of music they gall "Game Metal".

All the tracks they do are instumental and are complete heavy metal versions of Megadrive game soundtracks.

You can download full CDs + Imlay Covers of their stuff. Check out "Metal Axe" which is their rendition of Golden Axe.

As a DJ and Retro Gaming Enthusiast (also an IT Techy) I'm in progress of making a Drum N Bass version of the Super Mario Bros (NES) theme from the main title page that appears when you first turn the game on. If anyone has any ideas then let me know. I'm kinda new to this creating music thing, I usually just spin the tunes!

Here's an idea - don't do Mario.

Its been done to death already, with literally dozens (if not hundreds) of remixes. Drum n Bass is almost standard remix material.

There must be other games you enjoyed the soundtrack to.
The Retro League - Where skill isn't an obstacle
