I'm a Retro Gaming nut. Recent purchaces include a boxed Astro Wars by Grandstand, and Make-A-Chip, Scrabble, Survival for the humble Speccy, all items from charity shops. :D

I (used) to make desktop icons with a gaming theme, but had to knock that on the head due to real life getting in the way.

A few names on this board seem familar.... ;)
Play - Croc (PS1), Time Crisis 2 (PS2) : Want - Call of Duty 2 (360) : Bin - 2nd user prices @ Game™

Hi

Yeah im Adam a big fan of older games, but I like alot of newer ones aswell.Im not fussy as long as I enjoy it.

If I didnt I wouldnt be able to sing the praises of the mighty Disgaea up hill and down dale.

Like the forum though good reading some quotes from some wiser heads and more like minded gamers for once.It makes such a refreshing change from some of the sniping and holier than thou attitude that can be found in other forums about games up and down.I wont name any names.

Hello, the names Rikki and I've been into computers since I was a young un.

Started off when I got a Commodore Plus/4 for my birthday and fell in love with them. Finding Mastertronic titles for under 2 quid was awesome but then titles started to disappear. Still got my old tapes somewhere but the machine itself died a long time ago.

Loving RG, bought it from about issue 4 whenever the local newsagent would have it in. Thought it was quite pricey and never bothered loading any of the cover mounts (I've got 8mb broadband so thought it a bit pointless) and am very glad the new look version is cover mount free.

Details about myself are:

aged: 27
lives: Glasgow
job: Magazine editor for Fast & Modified, performance and modified car title based in Scotland under management from AutoTrader/Guardian Media.

Cheers,

Rikki

So who is this Crunchy then?

"A superior games player".
"A man without parallel in the mad skillz gaming community".
"A man who breezes through games on any system with great aplomb and no small amount of panache".
"A true gaming savant".
"The king of retro gaming"

Just a few of the many things that nobody has ever said about me at all.

Nurses describe my condition.

Ok, I've just read this topic so I haven't really checked everyones info yet but hopefully I'll get to know people better in time! I love the magazine and the great community feel btw guys.

My name is Darren, I'm 21 and a civil servant; although I'm now working part-time and have dreams of working in comic books...

Overall, I prefer old games; the only really recent games I've play/play are City Of Heroes, Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Superman Shadow Of Apokalips (I'm a super-hero geek; what can I say?!)

I like all sorts of games, from Super Mario Land to WWF No Mercy, from Gradius to Ridge Racer.

Right now I have my PS2, N64 and SNES set up. Also a big handheld fan with a DS, GBA and a Neo Geo Pocket Color (around somewhere!)

Glad to be here anyway gang!

SirClive... AKA DarthGord... AKA Gordon Sinclair

33, born in Manchester but now live in Halifax. Liverpool Fan. No kids yet, but hopefully won't be too long now.

Spent my youth with aPhillips G7000 Videopac, ZX81, C16, Speccy 48k, Speccy 128k, C64, Atari ST, Amiga, PC (but not all at once).

Now started collecting consoles and have...
-Grandstand Channel F
-Master System
-Megadrive
-Mega CD
-Saturn
-Dreamcast
-N64
-Amstrad GX4000
-PS2
-XBox

All are constantly connected to 2 TVs (except for the Channel F), meaning I can whack a cartridge in and get a bit of Retro satisfaction whenever I like!

Oh and I have a Jamma cab converted to MAME which got promoted from the garage to the conservatory when I moved house recently :D

The Speccy is my fave machine, though just got into the Dreamcast and am loving that.

Sweet! Got my DC about 4-5 months ago and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. An absolutley fantastic console that never got the recognition it deserved.

Nostalgic interests here:
  • 1st full-screen game: 3D Monster Maze (loaded off an 8-inch bobbin tape back in Soviet Russia at my friend's, usually took something like 3 attempts before it would load). One of those days I decided to create a Wikipedia page for this game and learned that it was the 1st 3D game for a home computer.

1st job: back in the high school, working in InterCompex on the Hobbit computer.

My name's Peter and I'm an alcoholic..oops, wrong forum!

I'm Peter, 31, from Birmingham.

Began playing games on the Grandstand pong console (with free "signed" poster of Trevor Francis!).

I then moved on to the Atari VCS and fell in love with Pac-Man; the VCS version was fantastic and reccommend the album 'Pac-Man Fever' by Buckner & Garcia!

Since then I moved onto Uncle Clive's baby, the Sinclair Spectrum 48k which was purchased from Rumblelows.

In the late 80's I moved onto the C64 and the early 90's the Amiga in its various forms.

In '92 I had my first PC and knew the Amiga's time was over when I saw
Wolfenstein running on it; I couldn't believe something so graphically complex would run on it, I was in shock and awe!

This was an extract from the forthcoming book 'Memories of a Gaming Obscurist' published by Hodder & Stoughton for £13.99
"A cynic is what an optimist calls a realist"

Hi folks,

I'm Rob, 27 from sunny Torquay.

I have two daughters, and I live with my girlfriend and her 2 daugters. We've also got a baby on the way (due end of May).

My first issue of Retro Gamer was issue 5, since then I've tried to get every issue (although I'm missing one or two from my collection).

I started with computers on the old ZX81, from there I went onto the Atari 65XE, Speccy +3, CPC 464 & 664, Atari ST, Amiga 500 and then the PC.

I've also had a Megadrive (Japanese PAL modified version), Super NES (US version), Neo Geo (ohh how I miss my old Neo Geo) and a Apple/Bandai Pippin to mention a few consoles I've had in the past.

I'm trying to get my kids into old games. They enjoy playing on the Gamecube & XBOX, but I want them to see there were some really fun games back in the olden days :D

Rob
